Jesus fucking Christ. :(

The NHS has a metric fuck-ton of problems, but when I got gullet cancer, I didn't have to pay for a damn thing.

America, I got nothing but love for you, but you're health care system is beyond fucked.
It's pretty crazy what we are doing in this country but people are like "yea but I don't have to wait a month for knee surgery, so who cares if someone dies because they don't have money to pay for healthcare".

I'm so happy for you. Chemo fucking sucked, and I got my first session 2 days before Christmas. Just in time for all the side-effects to kick in. The doctor warned me,

"I'm afraid you won't have a very pleasant Christmas".

"Well, just as long as it's not my last Christmas, doctor"
, I replied.

Chemo did a fantastic job; it killed the vast majority of the tumour before they operated, and prevented it from spreading. But the side-effects were nasty: sickness, exhaustion, mouth-ulcers etc. It also flat-lined my Immune System, to the point I developed a very dangerous infection in my left shoulder. Which meant I had to undergo emergency surgery and eight weeks of antibiotic treatment before I could have my cancer surgery.

So I'm very glad you dodged that bullet. :)
Ahhhh, treasure, what a rough ride you had of it. I can honestly say I looked forward to my radiation every morning because apart from a bit of dryness where they targeted it I had zero side effects and it was like hanging out with gal pals.

We didn't talk my mum out of Chemo but gave her the facts of the miserable side effects which would have given her a few more months but a miserable few months being she was incontinent as well already. In your case you were young so you take all the treatment possible.

All the best, matey x

Yeah, I may sound like I'm bitching, but I don't regret a single thing. It was rough AF, but it saved my life, and that's the only thing that matters. :)

You too, pal. xx

I don't think you're bitching, it was one of the most traumatic things I ever went through and I got off lightly.

Cancer is like war; only those who have been through it can really understand it. And it leaves it's mark even on those of us lucky enough to survive.

God bless and take care xx
