Media Undisputed LHW champion in boxing Dmitry Bivol on how a street fight with Khabib would go "MMA is closer to a street fight, no point hiding it"

MMA is closer to a street fight. That I actually agree with. The closer part.

MMA still isn't a street fight. The first thing you need in a street fight is situational awareness. If you are getting into a fight with multiple opponents and you have no backup or you're relying on security to save you going to the ground is a big no no. You're asking to get kicked or stomped in the head or get hit with a glass bottle or stabbed in your back. It's just not smart.

BJJ and wrestling are made specifically for 1 on 1 fights and don't translate against multiple opponents very well.

There are no rules in a street fight. No such thing as a sucker punch. No such thing as cheating. There's no timeouts. Gotta remember that.

The striking arts will do you better justice for self defense.

Bivol UFC WW champion with 6 months of grappling training with Khabib
I wouldn't even train him on grappling. Just take down defense. There's no way to reasonably close to the gap between him and Khabib on the ground with 3 years of training. Better off just training TDD with the hope that the fight doesn't ever hit the ground because khabib will get a sub eventually.

Better off avoiding TDs and making khabib pay for attempting TD and make that fight a purely stand up fight.

One is a pure boxer and the other is a grappling specialist.

Bivol can't stop the takedowns and he isn't exactly a 1 punch KO guy. There are fighters who have trained grappling their entire lives and can't touch Khabib, what makes you you think someone who is less trained could do so?

Agreed, i have a special diet that leaves me on the verge of diaria all the time so that i can shit on anyone anywhere anytime.

What does "street fight" mean? Are there weapons? Are we biting, eye gauging, etc.? Where is it taking place: a small elevator (e.g., Buffer vs. Trigg); crowded street/nightclub; open parking lot?

Context matters.

Honorable one on one.

The thing with street fights is they barely last 15 - 20 seconds, and 20 seconds is the MAX, they rarely go long, sure there are some rare exceptions, but when I was younger and worked at a Seafood Restaurant.. there was a nightclub just 4 doors aways and there were always some trouble outside on the weekends and I seen some street fights there and never seen anything go longer than 20 seconds.

You would have to do a special 1 on 1 street fight and make everyone else a ghost lol, because in reality as soon as it kicks off there are so many people getting involved and its just a mess lol. The ground is actually very risky because the people start kicking them and also using glass bottles.

Its not year 1970 anymore. Its more about guns and less about fair duel these days.

Mma is good way to keep that old "lets trade punches and after that we shake hands" spirit alive. I dont understand why some sport fans want to mention street fights all the time.

I'm glad Bivol can just answer the question and not give these message board trope answers 😄.

Haha I don't think they were asking Bivol who would win in a huge chaot gang brawl without weapons between him and Khabib, that might be a little complicated to answer as there are a large number of confounders. Luckily Bivol understood and stuck to the topic.

But if we're going by what you say regarding street fights, then surely Olympic sprinting would be the best part of self defense, as you are much likely to get hit with a glass bottle or sucker punched etc if you are far away from the scene than if you are sitting there trying to box people in the middle of huge brawl where it is impossible to defend yourself from all angles at once.

Is the Philly shell going to stop a knife in your back hahahaaha. Good luck trying to hit Usain Bolt in the back of the head with a bottle unless you have a really accurate and powerful throwing arm.

It's a street fight. Setting parameters and guidelines generally isn't feasible.
