Underrated/Overrated Films

Apocalypto underrated

The departed overrated

Here are two movies I think tend to be overshadowed or overlooked due to them being "foreign" films:

Once Were Warriors
Predestination

I enjoyed both these films immensely although I feel a lot more strongly about Once Were Warriors
Jake the muscle

Avatar was just visually groundbreaking. Once you get past the visuals then you realize that story is lacking and cliché.
Wasn't the story basically just fern gully??

Want to.know what's underrated? The Three Amigos. I was watching it earlier today and you kind of forget how funny it was. Hell the plethora scene itself is hilarious as shit. Or the beginning when they're trying to sneak into the studio.

Three Amigos with Steve Martin?

Haa. I have never seen that. What is that about?

FernGully: The Last Rainforest (1992)

Danisha Williams
The fairies live in a peaceful place in the forest called Fern Gully which has been protected for many years by Magi, a wise fairy with strong powers. Her grand-daughter Crysta is a charming, beautiful fairy that is very intrigued about the world outside of Fern Gully. She along with the other fairies in the forest do not believe humans exist and are only in stories, until a crazy bat by the name of Batty, comes and tells them all these crazy stories about how he was captured by humans and experimented on. At first no one believes him except Crysta and she is determined to find out if humans are real. She goes to a place called Mount Warning, where the evil shadow of destruction Hexxus is known to be trapped, and finds a human named Zak. When he is almost crushed by a tree Crysta accidently shrinks him to fairy-size and he falls on a tree that is about to be devoured by "The Leveller". "The Leveller" is a wood cutting machine that has been cutting down every tree the humans have been putting red Xs on. Crysta saves Zak from "The Leveller" which she thinks is just a monster but she cannot properly un-shrink him. To avoid her being mad at him Zak tells her that the red Xs keep the monster back instead of what they are really there for, which is to pick which trees to cut down. They decide to take Zak to Magi so she can un-shrink him, on the way Zak sees the forest really for the first time with all its beauty and life. Back toward Mount Warning the humans have accidently released Hexxus who is set on destroying Fern Gully, he uses "The Leveller" to cut down all the trees to Fern Gully. When Crysta, Zak and Batty make it back to Fern Gully the fairies cannot believe the Zak is really a human and they all excited to see him and learn about him. The only one who is truly worried is Magi, she goes to check on the path to Fern Gully and sees that it is beginning destroyed and Hexxus is coming this way. She shows Crysta the red Xs and tells her the trees cannot be saved. With Hexxus drawing closer and closer to Fern Gully, Magi calls for all the fairies to come around to tells them of the danger. She uses the last of her magic to try and protect Fern Gully.

I can't roll with you on this one, Cint. And it's because I'm naturally repulsed by romantic movies, it's because I sat down one night and watched this one and just thought it was a piece of shit. Super OVERrated in my opinion.

Underrated: Punch-Drunk Love & Stranger Than Fiction

We need to stick together on this one. Calling it a piece of shit is detrimental to our working relationship.

LOL. I just have to be honest, I have a special sort of dislike for The Notebook. And I really have no idea why it became as popular as it did.

Anything related to Nicholas Sparks sucks.

Mad Max: Fury Road is imo one of the most overrated films ever. Visually impressive, sure... but lets be real, There have been toothpaste commercials with a deeper plot.

One movie that I thought was always underrated was The Matrix Reloaded. I mean, of course the original Matrix is the best film, it is absolutely perfect, and cannot be topped in any way.

But Reloaded had so many great action sequences...Neo vs the three agents. The chateau fight scene. The highway chase. The burly brawl in the courtyard. So much action porn. It did end on a stupid cliffhanger though.

I hated Revolutions because they spent way too much time in the real world. I don't want to see you running around in dirty rags. I want to see you wearing shiny black leather doing flips and shit. Even the fight in Club Hel felt inferior to the lobby from the first movie. And the final fight between Neo and Smith was... idk. Epic, almost Dragonball Z-like, but also underwhelming in a way. Neo didn't win. He allowed himself to lose.

Ugh... the fight scenes in Matrix:Reloaded just went on forever where nothing ever really changed. Nobody was ever able to get the leg up on anybody else, and they just fought each other for no reason... just painfully too long. Oh well, to each their own.

Underrated: Watchmen, Lawnmower Man

Overrated : Bladerunner (even directors cut)
