My mma gym is good but they use mostly boxing gloves when striking. I do use mostly head movement and try to block with my forearms and elbows primarily, but what are the most important differences in defence I should watch out for to not build bad habits. Will probably buy my own mma gloves soon

Don’t over think it. The best fighters in the world do a ton of training and starting in 16oz gloves
Plus after a few years of sparring and pad work with 16 oz gloves, it feels so much easier to keep your hands up while tired with mma gloves on.

Muscular endurance. My best young boxer has the fastest hands I’ve ever seen and loves hitting mitts in 10oz gloves. I force him to use 16s for this reason.

And bc my hands take a god damn beating when guys wear small gloves like that

Yup, I always used 16 oz gloves to start my drills and changed to bareknuckle for conditioning. It's like your fists got wings.

somewhat related- we spar fairly often only a small portion of that is hard sparring-Which I'm very grateful for to be clear I think that's the way to do it. But I do wonder if that could lead to me having some blindspots? Recently noticed I'm not sitting down on my punches nearly as much as often I used to. I still try to set up would-be power shots as if it were a normal fight and have gotten better at landing those though.
