Underrated/Overrated Films

Overrated: most QT films. They are decent but not the gems everyone speaks of them as.
Frozen. LOTR series.

Underrated: Hook. Hearts in Atlantis.
Let the right one in.

Drawing a blank today but thats what im going with for now, tons of others obviously.

Out of the Furnace? Yeah that was a really dark movie. Woody Harrelson does a great jon of playing a really nasty villain.

Right yeah that was it.

Also Stakeland is insanely underrated.

Back To The Future is not underrated whatsoever. An argument could be made for it's sequels though. Especially Part 2.

Overrated:

Avatar - Seriously, James Cameron must be a mentalist. How he made people make this utterly forgettable, average flick the #1 money making movie of all time, is truly the work of a warlock.

Underrated:

Rambo - The newest one. Now this is a fucking action movie. True to it's roots, and a nice bookend for the series.

Avatar was just visually groundbreaking. Once you get past the visuals then you realize that story is lacking and cliché.

Whoa buddy, you better slow your roll. That movie had a unique premise, lots of memorable sequences, gruesome scene, and the MOTHERFUCKER of all plot twists. I watched Spike Lee's version and it was just a sad imitation. Can't hold a candle to the original.

Speaking of Asian cinema, any of you guys check out "The Raid" and its sequel "The Raid: Redemption"?

How dare you take a stand against my point of view on Oldboy (Korean version). BTW both films you mentioned are underrated. @DIABOLUS

I like Meet Joe Black a lot. Good choice.

I'm not sure how Boondock Saints can be underrated. It's a beloved cult classic. I like it, btw.

It was much after poor box office performance. Fight club was another. Popular later on. Box office was terrible. Ex Machina was great.

Curious if there are other movies like that one that people may have missed that were excellent on the topic of awareness and consciousness.

Underrated (best opening scene ever):

Overrated:

The Hateful Eight. His worst film imo.

Underated :
  • The machine
    • Think ex machina only the government CIA/M15 get involved and dual for A.I. power

Hateful Eight was awful. Just an excuse for Tarantino to cast all these different actors and have all these extended conversations about nothing of importance. Feels like every movie of his he just continues to get worse and worse.

Far as I'm concerned, the only movies of his I enjoyed were Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown and True Romance (which he wrote but didn't direct).

Everything from Kill Bill forward has been caricature after caricature of real movies and completely lacking in substance. All flash with nothing behind it. For what it's worth, I thought the setup of Hateful Eight was interesting, with the whole parlour room mystery angle to it. Then Tarantino shits on that by breaking the rules of the genre and having a secret character suddenly reveal themselves that the audience wasn't previously informed about.

Terrible, terrible, terrible.

Agree with all of this. Except I liked Inglourious Basterds and the first half of Django.

Underrated and underappreciated. Battleship.

Felt this way about this movie. It was pretty damn close to the cartoon which I can appreciate. I heard there is a sequel coming. I hope it stays close to the story.its been ages so the cast will likely be reloaded.

Saw this a few years back and it was fucking hilarious, never heard anyone talk about it since

Review(Spoiler Alert): @SirKratos

Story: The premise of the movie is actually pretty good and interesting. In a way it is ahead of its time. The mystery keeps you interested in where it is headed. It eventually gets fumbled a bit though in the third act and becomes too convoluted. The middle act is definitely the strongest.

Pace: It moves really well and never got boring. The movie kinds of place you right into the thick of it without developing the characters. It just seems to start and kept going. Haa

Acting/Dialogue: This was the movie's biggest fault. The dialogue is kind of hammy and the acting is pretty mediocre. The line delivery is just so bad at times and it seems like the main lead actor is the only one who got the memo and tried to act, he fucks up too but he does way more than everybody else.

Technicalities(Is that a word?): Cinematography/Audio is average not bad not great just standard.

Overall: Enjoyable film, if it was handled and executed better it would have been talked about more. It actually touched on things that The Matrix would go on to expand on a year later and Inception did as well 12 years later.

Ah, it all makes sense now. I figured you probably meant Dark City when you said Dark World, very enjoyable movie.

The 13th Floor is actually on my IMDb watchlist for quite some time now, never had the chance to give it a watch.

Would you recommend it?

Yeah its good

lil boring but good

FANTASTIC SELECTION.

You're Next definitely surprised me because it was good and fun. I am not a fan of Horror/Slasher movies but You're Next is fantastic.

Moon is also super underrated.

Just off the top of my head

Overrated - Star Wars
Seriously, Star Wars sucks dick. Star Trek all the way.

Underrated - The Arrival
Few people have seen this movie with Charlie Sheen playing a NASA scientist who discovers an alien signal. The special effects kind of suck. But it's a good movie.

I watched the Arrival cause of your post

Average

5/10

Here are two movies I think tend to be overshadowed or overlooked due to them being "foreign" films:

Once Were Warriors
Predestination

I enjoyed both these films immensely although I feel a lot more strongly about Once Were Warriors
