Underrated/Overrated Films

Great film.

I'm in the minority that enjoys all 3, although i think the original is the best (most people say II)

I like all 3 but I can admit the 3rd was pretty disappointing.

A couple months back, I would have confidently said Blade II was better but I saw the original again a few weeks ago and I forgot how good it was.

The first one was the best IMO.

3 sucked in many ways, but is still a guilty pleasure for me.

Overrated (but not bad)

Good superhoero movie for sure

Entire TDK trilogy shits on it, Cap trilogy shits on it, Guardians, Deadpool, Iron Man 1 i could go on. Its not one of the best sueperhero movies ever like some will say. IMO. Its fine, good even, but i could probably list 10 super hero movies alone i like better.

What up? Can you explain what that movie was about? Haa
A bunch of dumb tough guys enslave a smart even tougher one eyed mute guy. He befriends a boy, kills all those tough guys then meets other tough guys who he takes to the New World. They do a bunch of paiute, rape each other and then are massacred by injuns.

The sodomy scene was so random. I remember that movie mainly due to the lack of dialogue.

Underrated:

"The Tournament"

Overrated:

"The Revenant"

House of the Devil is great, Horror is my favorite genre and its a slow building movie with great tension. Its just well crafted IMO and they nailed the retro vibe of the movie. Worth a watch for horror fans IMO.

Exorcist, Paranormal Activity series, Friday the 13th series, Halloween series, Krampus (heard good things, bought it recently and liked almost nothing about it)

I can't say I'm in agreement with your comments here.

I really wanted to like House of the Devil but so much of the movie is build up without any kind of payoff. Almost nothing happens until the last 15 minutes and for me that is just not effective filmmaking.

On the plus side though, in keeping with the early 80s vibe of the movie, I know they did a limited VHS release and I did think that was cool.

Now, the Exorcist is a GREAT fucking movie. We can argue about how "scary" it is, but regardless of any of that it is still a very interesting, thoughtful meditation on the supernatural, with great practical SFX and awesome performances.

I own an incredible VHS collector's edition complete with the movie, still photos from the set, the soundtrack, and a single frame of actual film from the movie. I also have a Blu-Ray collectors edition. And I've read the book, which is also excellent.

That sucks. I love that movie, top 5 in my favorite Superhero movies.

You know what is a forgotten Superhero movie for some odd reason?

A lot seem to forget that without this movie being successful then the Marvel Superhero Phase wouldn't be possible.

Wesley Snipes acting is underrated.

I thought it did payoff, i though it had a slow burn, the pizza guy on the phone scene, her hearing things upstairs but never seeing the "mother" she was supposed to be house sitting. I thought it was a very smart thrilling horror flick with good performances and cinematography.

Exorcist, eh, its okay. Doesn't do much for me really, its overrated IMO. Its not something I'd rewatch too many times.

Agree to disagree.

Overrated - Star Wars
Seriously, Star Wars sucks dick. Star Trek all the way.

Underrated - The Arrival
Few people have seen this movie with Charlie Sheen playing a NASA scientist who discovers an alien signal. The special effects kind of suck. But it's a good movie.

I agree with The Avengers 1 and 2. I think they are made boring. Have you seen Watchmen though?

Not completely. I usually stop somewhere trough with the superhero movies. Its just mindless action, stupid explosions etc. But I guess I grew out of that stuff. Havent really cared for action movies after 18 years old or so. They just make me feel stupid and ridiculous for some reason. But again, its all my own opinion

But hey, as for underrated film, in my opinion, Mystic River. Great stuff.

Mystic River was legit. Tim Robbins & Sean Penn stole the show.

I love "House Of The Devil", but slow burn horror is a tough bitch to master. I hate "Halloween" FFS. I can see why some may not have been too impressed with HOTD.

Mario Van Peebles directed New Jack City.

Oh, I don't remember him crying in New Jack City.

As much as I like that movie, member and my friends always goof on the scene that he used a little girl as a body shield. Haaaaaa

Yeah, that was a tough scene.

It's such a weird movie. One Eye (Mads) is such a strong nod to Odin but it I also thought it was implied that he actually came from The New World and returned to die.

Native American Norse mythology mash-up.

Then there is all the open ended commentary on power, abuse of power, masculinity, superstition, compassion, heart and greed.

I bet you DID actually GET the movie, it's just that it doesn't even TRY to come to any conclusions.

I really enjoy that it doesn't try to force ideals down your throat. It just tells a story that asks a shit load of questions.

No answers, though ...

It tapped into my own internal struggle to embrace the unknown and be OKAY WITH NOT KNOWING. There's a lot of wisdom and beauty in that state but it's one that people generally resist. I just think there is a time and place for curiosity and scientific method and also a time and place for making peace with 'mystery', 'divinity' or whatever you want to call it.

Anywhoo ... Whatever, ya know? Cool, challenging movie.
