Underrated/Overrated Films

Enemy was legit. I have seen trailers of eXistenZ but never seen the movie.

Have you heard of The 13th Floor or Dark World?

You're not talking about Dark City by chance, are you? Because I've seen that one. Very bizarre. Very unique story, so-so special effects. Probably would have done better if it hadn't come out the year before The Matrix.

I remember when I first saw the trailer for "Gods of Egypt" I thought to myself, "Wow, what a piece of shit. That thing is going to bomb." When I asked my friends about the movie they were all excited to see it. I read that, sure enough, the movie did in fact bomb and all my friends were surprised to hear that it didn't do well. Go figure.
Aha, yeah.

Sometimes you can just tell when a movie is going to be crap by the trailer, not always, but they make them to get you interested. If the trailer gives you a bad taste in your mouth, where's the motivation to see it?

Sorry The 13th Floor (1999) and I meant Dark City(1998)

Ah, it all makes sense now. I figured you probably meant Dark City when you said Dark World, very enjoyable movie.

The 13th Floor is actually on my IMDb watchlist for quite some time now, never had the chance to give it a watch.

Would you recommend it?

Yeah. I had to correct myself. Dark City is another underrated movie. The only people I know who have seen or even heard about it are film buffs or Sci-fi buffs. Fantastic movie and very intriguing.

I've never seen it...... I wanted to know you would recommend it to me. Haaaa.

Christopher Nolan was inspired by it, that's gotta count for something.

One movie that I thought was always underrated was The Matrix Reloaded. I mean, of course the original Matrix is the best film, it is absolutely perfect, and cannot be topped in any way.

But Reloaded had so many great action sequences...Neo vs the three agents. The chateau fight scene. The highway chase. The burly brawl in the courtyard. So much action porn. It did end on a stupid cliffhanger though.

I hated Revolutions because they spent way too much time in the real world. I don't want to see you running around in dirty rags. I want to see you wearing shiny black leather doing flips and shit. Even the fight in Club Hel felt inferior to the lobby from the first movie. And the final fight between Neo and Smith was... idk. Epic, almost Dragonball Z-like, but also underwhelming in a way. Neo didn't win. He allowed himself to lose.

Why don't we both watch it within this week, and share our thoughts ITT? :)

Dude. The Matrix Reloaded is my personal Matrix film. The actions scenes were legit.

I actually think The Matrix Revolution.....is pretty damn good as well. Haa

Valhalla Rising is utterly underappreciated and underrated.

Cube trilogy (1997-2002-2004) is one of the few thriller movies I watched on the edge of my seat, always thought it was kind of underrated.

Anyone else watched it?

I have seen Cube 2. All I remember is floating skeletons in a sexual position.

That's on my list. How is it?

It had a few glaring holes in the plot but seeing the AI interact with humans, and trying to figure out her motivations, whether she was telling the truth, etc. made it worthwhile. Oscar Isaac was also great in this one. Domnhall Gleeson was much better in this than Star Wars: TFA, where he got a little too carried away with the whole "overzealous Nazi officer" angle.

Sometimes good movies have bad trailers. Goldeneye had a bad trailer but it was a good movie.

Yeah, the second one was actually way too unrealistic... Three dimension rooms turning into a single dimension, people seeing visions of themselves etc... Its probably a better idea to start from the first one :)

Watch the first scene of Cube 1 (a 5 min pre-story scene). If you don't get chills, then the movie isn't for you :D
