Umar vs. Merab Round 5 Re-Watch (Scoring Breakdown/Summary/Analysis)

How can you say "it could've been a draw"? There were no 10-8's or point deductions lol.

Du Plessis, Lawler, Cruz (2nd reign), and Cejudo all won belts off close split decisions. It’s not a thing, it’s just something people say to excuse poor judging.
I will agree with bad judging (not in the Merab-Umar instance though) but having challengers lose close decisions is more prevalent than it is the other way round

My interpretation at the time of the fight and through a subsequent rewatch is it was a razor close fight that Merab just edged so pretty in line with your take. Merab’s body language compared to Umar’s along with showboating definitely swayed the narrative a lot. When you look at appreciable actions, this fight was about as close as it gets. I maintain Merab won, but this fight was just a few strikes away from a different outcome.
Holy shit that's unreadable. I literally got a headache.

Lol that first sentence is about 4 disparate points or ideas without punctuation... it wasn't the amazing content it was the horrible writing.
You didn’t capitalize letters or use correct punctuation in either of your responses lmao. Sorry a sentence broke your brain.

My main analysis was the first two paragraphs of the "Analysis" section and it was under 400 words - you could skip the entire post of stats/play-by-play and go straight to the analysis and get the just of it in under a couple minutes.

I was just being an asshole and busting your balls sherbrother.

I actually enjoy and appreciate your in depth well thought out analysis and it jives well with the screen name.

But... I have definitely got that inner voice smart ass in me that has a hard time resisting an opportunity to poke the bear

I didn’t expect it and now that I know it I respect it even more.

Re-watching made me really want to see this fight again, now that they've fought each other would be fascinating to see how they would adjust.
It’s the same for me, my friend, but it’s a shame that Merab doesn’t want it. He’s running *again, putting up obstacles, talking about facing new fighters — all to avoid having to face Umar once more.

I deeply regret this as well, because Merab is truly one of the great fighters of our time, and he has only this one stain to damage his image in my view.

*First he said Umar needed one more fight, and now that the fight with Figgy is getting close, he has added yet another obstacle to the rematch.
I hope that after beating Zahabi, he finally takes the rematch with Umar.

Umars inability to hide his fatigue and frustration lost him this fight.

I don't remember if I scored this fight for Sherdog or not...
