I see it as a more refined skill set vs supreme cardio. Both can wrestle very well. But Umar has superior stand up, positional scrambling, and subs. And merab has the endless gas tank. Which could play a part as Umar has gassed before and seems to cut a lot of weight. Great fight if they can get it booked.

For my money, you don't do what Merab did to Cejudo and Yan and not be the favorite against Umar. Yan is a great striker w/ competent grappling. Cejudo is an olympic wrestler w/ KO power. Umar may not be better on the feet than Yan and he may not be better on the mat than Cejudo and Merab embarassed those guys. No way I'd bet on Umar as a favorite. Now, at +250, it would be worth a gamble.

with merab’s last few fights, i’d have to favor him over anyone that doesn’t have equally strong cardio. he attempted 49 takedowns on yan (who has a “more refined skill set”) and yan stuffed 38 of them, which is extremely impressive. but it didn’t save him. yan btw has great cardio and probably the best striking at bw. i’ve watched umar’s recent fights, and i don’t see anything that is more threatening than what merab has already faced.
