Russia does have ground borders with their protectors and friends in NATO since 1949 th. 0 war. Just buddies doing business with exception some little tensions.
NATO predessors in U.S and U.K had helped USSR to develop nuclear weapons when had ceded part if europe for their comrade Stalin. Then USSR yet didn't had discovered enough uranium.
