Chances of getting stabbed, raped or pickpocketed are still as high as ever, but at least you don't have to worry about electric skateboards no more!

WTF is wrong with the UK? 300 pound fine for riding an electric skateboard, 6 points on a future driving license (2 year ban from driving automatically) AND skateboard confiscated because it wasn't insured (you can't get insurance for electric skateboard to begin with). UK neck and neck with China in freedom levels.

That's a pretty hefty penalty. Usually you see penalties like this for something that has become a major problem. Have these electric skateboards really created that much of an issue over there?

These skateboards aren't exactly cheap either. I'm seeing between $200-500 price range.

Are people crashing into old ladies? What's the problem?

Some drunk British tourist just pled guilty to killing someone in Australia by crashing an uninsured electric scooter into them.

Wow that's surprising and unfortunate. I wonder if the UK allows the scooters? If they're just banning the skateboards it could be due to poor quality of sidewalks causing injuries, or speed being too high for sidewalks, and they're too wobbly for the roads?

It's illegal to ride an electric skateboard in a public area in most US states; including Florida and New York. In California, they're subject to strict laws, and in Texas they're subject to the same laws as motor vehicles, ie, you need a license and insurance, and getting insurance is practically impossible because of how dangerous it is.

I've had a few people on electric scooters zoom past me on the sidewalk at ~15 mph when I've had my earphones in. They're definitely dangerous for the driver and pedestrians. In a busy, walkable city like London, I can imagine most people dislike them. They should be forced to use bike lanes.

Also, I'm tired of debunking the right-wing myth of the UK, Canada and blue states being authoritarian shitholes with record-high levels of crime, while red states are out here fighting the good fight, when the opposite is true. The murder rates and incarceration rates in red states are way higher. Compared with England and Wales, Texas has 5.1x the incarceration rate and 5.8x the intentional homicide rate.

Trump has literally just deployed the National Guard to the capital, despite crime being almost the lowest it's been in decades. That's 800 soldiers with military gear harassing and arresting some of the poorest and most downtrodden people in our society; drug addicts and the homeless.

Take off the points on a future driving license and a £300 fine and skateboard confiscated seems reasonable.

In Canada, you literally can't go for a walk in the park without getting arrested. Can't go for a swim, walk, enjoy the parks etc.

This is how I spend my weekends

What kind of 3rd world shithole country is this?

A fine would be understandable. However, taking points of a future driver's license is absolutely insane.

It's also weird because people on electric assisted pedal bikes don't need insurance at all, and I've seen many incidents with those as well.

That is obviously very sad. However, in many countries electric assisted-bicycles don't have to be insured at all and they go really fast too and plenty of accidents.

Knew the person being apprehended would be white before I even watched the video.

The UK Government made a big song and dance about how they’re cracking down on illegal electric bikes - which fake asylum seekers dangerously use to deliver food - but it was never going to be implemented, beyond apprehending a few civilised folks to get the stats up.

The illegals are still free to zoom at 40mph+ through pedestrian paths and through red lights.

What do all those things have in common ? BLUE dem cities for the crime rates. Spin your partisan BS somewhere else.

But Trump is a TDS symptom

There's a difference I think between ebikes, which tend to be expensive, and are purchased and ridden by adult commuters, and playthings like scooters and skateboards ridden by kids with no road sense or care, several times in my small village a kid has ridden straight off the pavement and across the road in front of my van without the kid looking.
