UFC releases Yushin Okami

My conspiracy theory is that the UFC is trying to send all these fighters to WSOF and then eventually buy up the organization/contracts on the cheap. Please disregard the fact that Fitch, Okami, etc will be out of their prime by then since that will make my conspiracy theory less plausible. LOL.

I swear to god nobody gave any shits about Okami yesterday. Now everyone loves the guy.

That's what doesn't make sense.

Fitch is different. He was 1-2-1, actively criticized the UFC, and was just another white guy with no following.

Okami 3-1 and arguably woulda been 4-0 if not for an eyes-closed-swinging-come-from-behind knock out, was a relatively good company man and had a big asian following.

When Fitch was cut, it was justifiable. This is mystifying.

And it matters that fitch was white?

Give up trying to make any sense of this, otherwise you will go crazy.

They can't keep everybody. He is a good fighter though, I'm sure he'll catch on somewhere else.

no, they can't keep everybody

which is why they should be cutting the Dave Herman's of the world, not the Yushin Okami's

It IS a huge loss because the UFC is about being a legit fight sport and not one that satisfies the need for Gladiator spectacles at all times. Okami has a type of fighting style that legit, non-poser fans of MMA should be able to appreciate at least once in a while. If you want the equivalent of bar fights everytime, well, frankly, that is partially what bars were invented for ion the first place. Okami for a long time was one of the best and one of the more important fighters in correcting the perception of MMA as being nothing but a stupid, senseless cockfighting type spectacle.

So yes, this IS a credibility loss.

not in the exact same way but they still gotta save up money when they can. no one wants to watch okami in a ppv event. NO ONE

I like him, as do a number of people at my gym. He has put on some pretty exciting fights as well. Yeah, he isn't everyone's type of fighter, but cutting cut after a loss like this is a bit bs.

He isn't even one of the higher paid fighters by zuffa to begin with.

How? Say some guy works his way up the ladder to a title, are people going to say "well, he never had to beat Okami so he's not a real champion"?

In the UFC "the best fight the best". Cutting one of the best while claiming this shit, well... You can't say you want to have all the best fighters on the planet and at the same time cut a legit top 10 guy. It's a credibility loss.

In this sport nothing should be more important than skills.

i did read your post, and you answered your question

everyone is outraged because yushin is a legit fighter and got cut because he's just not that exciting

in that case lets fire all the fighters and have Dana turn the sport into a modern colyseum and hire a bunch of thugs who just want to beat the crap out of each other till someone gets seriously mauled, if its all about the money, that will sell a lot.

This guy has got it. As a UFC fan I expect the best fighters to be there. Imagine if this was another sports league, their fans would be just as upset.

... Mayhem Miller, who was never a very good fighter to begin with, had legions of fans before he did terribly in the UFC and got crazy. ...

If I remember correctly, he made Egan Inoue not answer the bell, arm triangled Robbie Lawler, survived Niko Vitale's RNC then RNC'd him, gave Jacare a challenge in the DREAM MWGP when Jacare was subbing guys quickly and easily, easily smoked Katsuyori Shibata where I'm assuming any skilled guy should be able to do. Gauging a fighter based on a limited sample size isn't really an accurate assessment. If he was such a crap fighter, I doubt fight teams like Hendo's Team Quest, Munoz's Reign, Punishment w/Tito & Rampage, Cordeiro's King's MMA would have him around.

People say Akiyama sucks, but I've watched him do well in K-1 Hero's, DREAM. Same thing with Crocop, Mark Hunt, Overeem. By the time big stars sign with UFC, it's towards the end of their careers after years of wear and tear and not being used to dealing with opponents who cut a lot of weight.

I swear to god nobody gave any shits about Okami yesterday. Now everyone loves the guy.

Meh, he's about as boring to talk about as he is to watch. The conversation is more about UFC management...

By using the UFC rational, that the roster is packed and Okami is expensive, they should also cut, Hector Lombard, Alan Belcher and Overeem and in case anderson looses they should cut Anderson as well, just to be fair to White words!

Yeah I just don't see why the UFC should care though. They wont lose anything over it and they have made it clear that unless you can put on a show then they don't want you.

No one can say they don't have the best MW division in the world, so how does losing Okami hurt them.

Again, this has nothing to do with fair.

Okami fought for 42k/42k in his last five fights. That's hardly an arm or a leg for Zuffa. Sad times.

No one can say they don't have the best MW division in the world,

You corrupt that credibility by telling the competitors how to fight.

It not hard to understand.

Dana has invented his own martial art, and thats what we are watching now.

Its like that bit in fight club, where the reels turn over and no one notices.

Weve gone from the evolution of JKD, to the Art of Dana, and no one saw a thing.

Ive made my points here.

Cheers to the mods for a putting a poll up and have a nice night people.
