UFC/Pride/WEC Champions with the most Top 10 ranked wins in each division.

Not the one Silva fought in when he was on top.
Pride's Lightweight division ran from February 2004 to February 2007, a little over 3 years total, and they had the best Lightweights in the world.

Anderson Silva became the UFC's Middleweight Champion on October 2006; Silva's reign only overlapped with Pride's Lightweight division for 134 days, that represents only 12% of the total duration that Pride's Lightweight division existed, and you're trying to suggest that Silva's 12% overlap is enough to surpass it?

Not to mention the fact that the UFC only had 30% of the top ten Middleweights in the world at the time.

Furthermore, the UFC's Middleweight title was vacant from October 2002 to February 2005; most of the top ten Middleweights were competing in Pride's Light Heavyweight division at the time.

Lastly, the only time the Middleweight division was ever more stacked than the Lightweight division was post-Pride to pre-Dream, and that had more to do with the void left by the Pride organization getting shut down.

Great research, OP.

Georges has more top 5 wins than anyone has top 10 wins. Damn.

interesting stats of course. but just a single stat.

no conclusions can be made from a single stat. a stat that doesn't exist in the other long standing combat sport.

Damn Vitor wasn't ranked in the top 10 when Anderson beat him?

He's only counting middleweight, so Forrest and the WWs aren't applicable to that thread.

He still fought in a much weaker division relative to the other fighters. LW wasn't one of the most stacked divisions back then.

Not the one Silva fought in when he was on top.
The ignorance is astounding. PRIDE's 160lbs division was definitely stronger than the UFC's 185lbs division.

History is written by the victors and the UFC has done a good job of erasing the fact that they had a dramatically inferior roster to PRIDE.

History is written by the victors and the UFC has done a good job of erasing the fact that they had a dramatically inferior roster to PRIDE.

The UFC bought Pride 5 months after Silva became champ.

Silva's run was from Oct 2006 to July 2012. Gomi wasn't even the best fighter in the world by then. I'm saying that the division Silva dominated was stronger than the one that Gomi did. That Silva's resume is stronger than Gomi's.

The UFC bought Pride 5 months after Silva became champ.
I'm not sure what that has to do with anything.

Everyone knows that Anderson was the champion over one of the two weakest divisions in the UFC (right there with HW) and probably the single weakest division globally from 155lbs-265lbs in the sport at the time. The ignorant part is believing that PRIDE's LW division was inferior to that.

Silva's run was from Oct 2006 to July 2012. Gomi wasn't even the best fighter in the world by then. I'm saying that the division Silva dominated was stronger than the one that Gomi did. That Silva's resume is stronger than Gomi's.
No one is saying that they were concurrent. That's irrelevant.

No, Silva's division was not stronger than Gomi's. Not even close. The UFC's MW division became strong the same year Anderson lost the belt with the Strikeforce merge.

Gomi fought in an era that the UFC had closed its LW division. Most LW fought either in Japan or left the division, like the actual best fighter of that era, BJ Penn. He had already proven he was better than Gomi and went on to fight in heavier divisions. Had he stayed at LW he would have taken Gomi's spot. But the UFC didnt even have his division

It feels like this is the only fight in the history of MMA that almost consensus goat in his weight division got soundly defeated by a fighter who may have just claim to that title?

In FLW, Cejudo defeated Johnson by robbery and got finished in the first round in the first fight. Even if you are blind and mute and can't tell white from black and think Cejudo won, it was very close fight.

In BW, Cruz lost to Cody fair and square, but no way shape or form Cody is anywhere close to GOAT status with that fight IQ of his.

In LW, BJ Penn and Khabib never crossed pathes.

In WW, GSP and Uzman(though Burns fight is a tough fight for him) never crossed paths either.

In MW, Android and Israel did fight each other, but Android was way past his prime, and USADA.

In LHW, Shogun and Jones did fight each other, but I think Shogun, though he's the clean LHW goat in my heart, but he lost so much it's hard to claim he's the goat in that weight class.

In HW, I don't think that highly of Stipe, since he's more likely the consensus UFC heavyweight goat, but STipe and Fedor never crossed paths either.

So is Max vs Aldo the only time in the history of MMA where the possible consensus GOAT got defeated by a younger fighter in his prime who may have claim to that GOAT status and it can be very much argued that said older GOAT was very much in his prime when both fought?
In case you were wondering where I got those number of wins.

So weak yet the guy who didnt manage to even get a tittle shot during Silva's reign despite having many opportunities, became champ in 2015

Why not Korean Zombie for Aldo?
Zombie was only ranked #15 at the time.

While he did defeat #26 Garcia, #15 Hominick, #13 Poirier, and managed to climb up to the #8 spot, he went inactive for 15 months which caused him to go down in the rankings.
