He didn't get deducted for his second eye poke and didn't get DQ'd for the 3rd/4th. Eye pokes are way worse than nutshots yet they are treated so lightly in terms of warnings/penalties. I can't see any reason for a fighter not to abuse them until the sport changes.

That's a different story altogether. At the end of the day, the ref fucked up. He should have been better. Dude didn't care about eye pokes but took a point for an innocuous ball shot in the Burns fight. This guy is an asshole.

I mean, why was it such a fucking problem for him to give the man a towel for his eye? He wouldn't even do it the second time. I think Dana might give this ref the Mario treatment. He could get banned.

I did not like Weidman for the longest time partially due to his celebration for breaking Silva’s leg. But I had begun to soften and feel for the guy. Was hoping for him to get it done tonight. But his comments about the eye pokes reaffirmed he’s kind of a dick to me. You blatantly fouled the guy to get the win and then pretended like it was his fault.

I was cheering for Weidman, but the amount of eye pokes in that situation was DQ worthy bad.

Plus Weidman kept trying to equate the 1 he received with the 4 he gave Bruno. Very different situations.

Isn’t a technical decision the proper outcome? It wasn’t intentional and the fight went over 2 rounds. I’m good either way.

Getting a hard warning after the previous eye pokes to not outstretch your fingers (which is a rule they have) could very well result in a DQ if you do it again right after. Especially egregious, since there was a soft warning reminding him again after the hard warning.

But yeah, the NC is more for earlier stoppages, or something more administrative.
