I believe spiking someone downward like a piledriver on their head and neck is illegal. This looks legit here.

Yep, this came up in the Rose/Andrade fight too because people don't know anything about anything. A piledriver slam is literally that and only that - rotating someone completely upside down so that they're in an inverted vertical line, then dropping to your knees so their head strikes the mat. Any other slam is perfectly legal no matter what happens with the other fighter's head.

I usually give the commentators some leeway and don't try to be so critical, but Cruz is just, not for the first time, a complete idiot. There are even certain throws/slams that are prohibited, but when you KTFO somebody with a headbutt right after a throw, now that's completely legal and shouldn't be an issue, right? Man...

Cruz made the comment to go in there and throw them on their head and get them out of there. Wouldn’t that include a pile driver?

Doubtful. You can't piledrive someone in folkstyle/greco/freestyle wrestling either. Dom knows wrestling and his thinking is pretty fucking rigid so I can't see him defending someone pulling a super dangerous move like that. He's an asshole, but he's also a rule follower.

Bro I absolutely suck at picking fights. You could probably reverse my picks and make some good money betting.

That Cannonier pick.... Vettori has a cinderblock for a head and Cannonier is a lil gun shy nowadays

Right. Like Marquardt tombstoning dudes......that was pretty bad. Or Sapp vs Big Nog.

Solid commentary by Cruz -- he said what needed to be said. I'm glad the kid won, but that "clash of heads" call was bollocks imo
