I have to give props to Sandhagan -- fighting down in the rankings is not something people risk very often in the UFC. I'm going to be cheering for him just for that reason alone.
Fights where surging prospects get to take on a top ranked contender are some of my favorite storylines in MMA.

Umar could keep winning fights outside the top 10 and there would always be question marks about how good he is. This fight will answer the question of how good Umar is, and nobody will be able to deny that.

It's a true sink or swim fight.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to Abu Dhabi for its latest card, which is headlined by an intriguing bantamweight clash.

The main event of UFC on ABC 7 will see Cory Sandhagen take on the undefeated Umar Nurmagomedov. Both men successfully made weight for the five-round fight. So did the rest of the 13-fight card.
Sandhagen (17-4) is on a three-fight winning streak since back-to-back defeats to Petr Yan and T.J. Dillashaw. The 32-year-old's current run has seen a TKO win over Yadong Song and decisions over Rob Font and Marlon Vera. "Sandman" officially stepped on the scale at 136 pounds, taking full advantage of the one-pound allowance.

A perfect 17-0 as a professional, Nurmagomedov has looked great inside the Octagon so far. This marks a big step up, though, as previous wins came over the likes of Raoni Barcelos and Brian Kelleher. The 28-year-old will look to prove he's a contender and weighed 135 pounds on the dot.

UFC on ABC 7 prelims begin at noon ET/9 a.m. PT on ESPN2 and ESPN+. The fights then transition to ABC, ESPN, and ESPN+ at 3 p.m. ET/noon PT.

Yes! There are so many reasons to love this fight. I wish we got more of them.

Hey, you'd probably know the answer to this: recently (probably in Juily), there was a Japanese prospect who debuted in the early pre-lims (I think the second fight of the night) and put on an absolute ground war with his opponent. Do you remember who it was? I already forgot his name and that bugs me because I want to follow his fights.

Rei Tsuruya vs Carlos Hernandez.

Note: Tsuruya's father is Japanese MMA pioneer Hiroshi Tsuruya, who only had career losses to Takanori Gomi and Shaolin Ribeiro: https://www.tapology.com/fightcenter/fighters/2750-hiroshi-tsuruya
