So I was reading the following article on the main page: http://www.sherdog.com/news/articles/Casualties-of-the-UFCs-Quest-for-Legitimacy-137411
And part of it mentioned how the sport has little in the way of big, huge events to look forward to. Although the article used tennis’s big tournaments, I think this sport, like it or not, has more in common with pro wrestling, largely due to the ppv format. WCW had Starcade. WWE has Wrestlemania, Summer Slam, and the Royal Rumble, big events that the rest of the year is spent building up to. The UFC is sorely lacking in these big, can’t miss annual events.
Now, would it be as easy to put on for UFC as it is for pro wrestling? Not quite, because p.w. has weeks of storylines building up to it. However, it can be done, if given time. Basically, the UFC needs to designate two to three events their big, can’t miss events, and stack the hell out of them each year. In addition, they need back up fighters ready in case of the injury bug. Now, the important thing is to not stack thes3 events so much, that they become detrimental to the events surrounding them, because the other events need as many eyes on them as possible, because that is where you hype the hell out of what will Allen with the big events.
My two cents on which events they should be? MSG in November, and IFW in July.
Thoughts?
