all the hype surrounding most fighters is gone.
and yes, i have been watching since pride days.

ufc was extremely exciting these past few years (especially during covid) because everyone wanted to know who the best fighters were.

since 2018, we've had so many fights between top fighters and we roughly know who is left standing.
in my opinion, there are 4 hyped fighters left:

- islam makhachev (maybe arman tsarukyan)
- shavkat rakhmonov (maybe leon edwards)
- alex pereira (maybe magomed ankalaev)
- jon jones (maybe tom aspinall)

list of hype that died:

- khabib retired
- mcgregor is basically retired / washed up / exposed by khabib
- tony ferguson is absolutely washed up / should retire
- dustin porier and justin gaethje exposed by charles oliveira
- charles oliveira exposed by islam makhachev
- alexander volkanovski exposed by islam makhachev
- sergei pavlovich exposed by tom aspinall
- ciryl gane exposed by jon jones
- stipe miocic is basically retired / old / exposed by ngannou
- ngannou left ufc / approaching 40
- jiri prochazka exposed by alex pereira
- israel adesanya basically retired / exposed by alex pereira
- jan blachowicz exposed by old glover texeira and alex pereira
- magomed ankalaev keeps breaking mma rules and fighting dirty
- sean strickland exposed by alex pereira
- khamzat chimaev exposed by 12-days-notice usman
- usman exposed by leon edwards... twice
- aljamain sterling and petr yan exposed by sean o'malley
- sean o'malley is a mcgregor copycat
- no one cares about 125 lb flyweights

change my mind please (or don't if you agree)

I'm paying for ESPN+ and seems like most of the cards don't have anything interesting enough to try to watch live or delayed. Not even getting an itch to watch past PPV events I never seen yet. I'll probably cancel.

Been watching since PRIDE but thinks anybody who catches a loss has been "exposed".

GTFOH.

that's the definition of hype. when someone loses after a long winning streak, the hype dies

fighters can still be top level after losing, but the "mythical hype" is gone

UFC is dying but it's not you just feel bored maybe its the watered down cards we have had but we have had some amazing fights this year so don't be sad.

If you're watching MMA for the "hype" then I don't know what to tell you.

As a fan of the actual sport, MMA is as good as it's ever been. The skill level is higher than ever.

This ^

Have you been watching consistently TS?

not consistently. there was a period when i stopped watching after gsp announced retirement (before bisping fight).

but i came back as a regular casual fan when mcgregor was rising and bringing eyes to the sport

everyone watches sports because of hype and superstars. i don't know what to tell you.

i'm a fan of mma, and always will be. i even train at an mma gym every week as a casual.

yes, the skill level is higher than ever. but it's concentrated in the few remaining who still have hype.

- islam
- shavkat
- poatan
- jon jones
- tom aspinall

everyone else got their hype (and skill level) stolen directly (or indirectly through other fighters) by these 5 guys.

i'll give an example of someone who can be high level, but less hyped now.

yair rodriquez has an extremely flashy and satisfying mma style (kickboxing). lots of people thought he would give volkanovski trouble.

what happened?

he had nothing for volkanovski. all the kicks did zero damage.
yair rodriguez is still a high-level fighter after losing to volkanovski, but his style (hype for kickboxing)
was proven to be ineffective and inferior against volkanovski's style (insanely good defense and boxing fundamentals)

The first round was arguably a 10-8 round. I don't see how Usman exposed him in this fight. Gilbert Burns made him look worse.

This has everything to do with you and nothing to do with the state of the UFC.
