Rumored UFC Mexico City to be moved due to security risks

Could you please elaborate? I live in Guadalajara, Jalisco, basically the hometown of this cartel, he was killed about 2hrs from here, yesterday there were a LOT of incidents, but its not like cartel bombs arenas, they set buses and cars on fire, set convenience stores like 7Eleven on fire, not bombing arenas...also another thing...they are not targeting CDMX (Mexico City), which is 8hrs away from here.

Its facts, i live in the city with the incidents, its cartel hometown basically.

Its not, but its also not "randomly unsafe" like the US, we have our type of violence.

Would watch. 100%.
Move to a small town in u.s you'll never wannabe go back.

This card is basically Apex worthy anyway. They were just trying to make some extra cash knowing that Moreno can sellout any event in Mexico.
It would be interesting to see what happens if a bunch of fighters who trained to fight at Mexico City elevation end up fighting at the Apex instead. Imagine everyone on the card turning into Merab . . .

Smart move!

Gotta be nuts to hold it there now.

That's begging an open invitation for the Cartels to "make a statement".

It's a warzone out there

They took out one of the cartel bosses yesterday, so unfortunately events like these will be targeted for repercussions.
Good riddens but unfortunately this could mean even more violence now that a Cartel boss got knocked off cause there is going to be a power grab over his territory now between the rest of the cartels.

Just saw Moreno interviewed on CBS Sports HQ & it sounds like it’s a go in Mexico City

He said what’s going on is upsetting but his family & friends are safe & he hopes the event can give his country something to feel good about

If it’s on it’s hard to ague with that

It would be a huge headache on so many levels to relocate, but who knows, the security situation could deteriorate rapidly maybe even in Mexico City. But I'm thinking that's unlikely to happen as the key to the cartels' power is being allied with or even being in control of regional and local governments. In Mexico City that's not the case, as far as I know, and as well the Mexican Armed Forces headquarters are all in Mexico City. Let's see what happens.

They aren't moving it. They kept holding events through COVID, they're not going to move this card. Dana is more interested in conquering the Mexican market than he is the safety of his fighters and their fans.

Maybe they can move it to Mar-a-Lago, I hear it's available and has a big lawn. Or maybe to California where "picograms" is just a four-letter word.
i swear, sherdoggers have memories of goldfish.

they kept events through covid by MOVING the cards. they moved to a whole new island specifically to hold events.

ufc noche 2025 was moved from mexico to San antonio.

ufc somethin something with jon jones was moved to California, what, like within 10 days of the event?

im pretty sure they mentioned other venues wouldnt work (in the past) because of political violence before. Maybe not outright, but i think it was pretty safe to assume. a recent example would be Qatar.

perhaps they wont move it, but its not unprecedented one bit.

I saw on Reddit a few people who live in Mex City saying Mexico City is completely unaffected and is 8 hours drive from where all the issues are.
i dont think thats the issue, necessarily. its just better to be safe than sorry. 8 hour drive or a 2 minute phone call can do the same damage. these cartles are much more sophisticated than most give them credit for. they operate a lot of the same equipment militaries do, ie drones

Yeh, I didn't think they really messed with the main tourist areas.

They might have a lot of the same equipment, but from everything I've read they don't have the same level of training so usually get obliterated once the army gets serious.
