I have been watching mma for a really long time now and because of the upcoming fight between stipe and francis, it really just hit me because of the press conference that if stipe wins he will hold the record for most consecutive title defenses for a hw..

Thats crazyyy, in all the years of the ufc having a hw champion, no one has defended it 3 consecutive times...

What could be the primary reason for this? Is it because of the 4oz gloves? is it because there is always top competiton at the top of the rankings? is it all of the above??

Who do you guys think had the best shot at defending it 3x? Obviously stipe has a great shot if he wins he does it.

i dont know i just cant believe we havent had a dominant hw champ in the ufc especially being that fedor fought in pride along with some other great hws.

history in the making... lets goooo stipe!!

Stipe is legit. And what better way to get the record than beating a beast. He has earned the "Baddest Man on the Planet" title. So Pumped for this fight. Sherdog members will be on the edge of their seats....

I cant wait myself!!! im like counting the hours down lol. i cant wait to see the ppv buy rate for ufc 220.. im hoping it does huge numbers!!

Quite frankly, the heavyweight division is a different animal than other weightclasses. They're all big, strong guys with enough power to ko someone. They're all dangerous because they're just big guys. The title usually changes hands at heavyeeight due to a finish.

Big, dangerous guys with small gas tanks makes for an exciting and always changing top 10, up to and including the champ.

It's simple . In all these years UFC has been running for, there was no HW fighter that was head and shoulders apart from the competition. We will see if Stipe is the one soon.

because contrary to many sherdoggers, HW is a very tough division where its very hard to win consistently.

im just really surprised no one has been able to win 3 fights in row after winning the title in over 20 fkn years!!! it seems so simple and yet its been the most difficult thing to do. i was just taken back when i found out. i still cant believe it.

its crazy to think with all the great hws that fought in the ufc that stipe could be the one to do it. im really rooting for him.

None of them have been good enough. Stipe isn't about to get it done, either.

Shame that Francois is going to ruin that dream from happening.

after stipe beats ngannou were gonna get stipe vs cain

cant fucking wait

the funny thing is i can see a healthy cain beating both stipe and francis!
yeah the issue is hes never healthy...lol

that be my 2 of favorite fighters fighting for the belt idk who i'd root for

ive had a quite a few fights like that lol like aldo-edgar, rumble-gus,rda-lawler, edgar-maynard etc.

This fight isn't getting the hype it deserves.

Yes I think Francis is about to roll through the division for years.

I'm not sure he'd even stay around for years. He only got into MMA because it was easier to break into than his first ambition, boxing. He's already making it clear that he considers the belt a stepping stone. “It’s very important, but does this mean anything? No, this is just one step... I’m not just looking to beat Stipe and be the champion and be complete. No, I’m looking forward to doing something really (special). I don’t know what, but maybe something that someone has never done.”

And no one has defended the LW belt more than 3 times.
