UFC attempt to Gaslight us into thinking Anthony Smith was a Legend, is a Microcosm of its Current State.

Arlovski didn't want one, he wasn't even retiring.

Stipe, I think didn't give a shit. Didn't really have a great relationship with the UFC anyway.
Arlovski said that, then complained about how it ended uncerimoniously afterwards...still...nothing. Stipe...did he actually retire? Still thinking he has a chance for a little love. I agree with the OP that having a grand send off for Smith seems a bit over the top compared to how other much more popular and deserving fighters have been treated by the UFC. Not that Smith doesn't deserve kudos, seems to me that they should do this more often.

What do you mean still nothing? They do send-offs for retirements. Not for your contract running out so you can go fight somewhere else.

If he felt at the time he didn't want one and didn't wanna retire ( and still hasn't ) the it's just sour grapes for him to complain about it later on.

Stipe deserved it of course, but not sure if he wanted it or cared that much.

I'm not sure how it all went down. I thought they knew it was Andre's last fight but I guess I'm wrong. He did sign with the GFL, so I guess he wasn't PLANNING on retiring LOL.

I remember his interview w Ariel right after.

He knew he was not going to retire. He seemed surprised that UFC didn't resign him for more fights. He wasn't ready to retire and didn't want a send-off cos he felt it would make him too emotional anyway.

He was talking about trying to get a boxing fight with Fedor and he showed up at GFL so yea, no intention to retire. He said wanted more money for things he wanted to take care of before he stops fighting.

I also don't think Stipe told them he was retiring beforehand.

Everyone who explicitly says it's my last fight who's of a certain level gets one. Smith did, Michelle Waterson did, Carla Esparza did.

I don't think you can expect them to have a narrated highlight package on hand for every old fighter just in case they choose to retire.

this Suga Sean v Merab rematch is also an insult.

Nah, This fight is a direct product of the UFC giving Umar a title shot he didn't deserve. If they just made Figgy vs merab, They could have done Yan vs Umar for next shot and right now we'd be waiting on Merab vs Yan/Umar. but no, force the dagestani meme, Make a dead end match up like figgy vs yan for no reason. Now the only options are Yan and 2'malley.

Merab vs Umar was the insult, This is the Merab vs O'meme 2 match up is just the lingering effect

Lol Anthony Smith is a company man and will be working as a broadcaster for them so of course they gave him a tribute ..

Who gives a shit...they guy captivated some people in his run up to the jones fight and hes still a warrior ...

Everyone retiring after a long stint in the octagon should be tributed ....these are warriors..

He ain’t retiring though

Too many fights, he will yearn for getting hit again

I can see him returning to BKFC when back in Iowa/Nevbraska. They are always offering local known-heads a shot on cards and the tempting will be too much Im afraid

Hey according to sherdog Cerrone and Joe Miller are legends. It seems that you just have to be around for a while no matters your fighting records.

So glad I don't have to watch that clown fight ever again.

KFC's new bucket of slop is the best too. And whatever shitty car ford and chevy are making these days is their best. We're living in an era of mediocrity and sadness covered up by confetti and the celebration of failure.
