If you look at the eye poke, the fingers went into the eyelid. The fact that Tom can't see, might indicate a serious injury (e.g detached retina) in the back of the eye.

Nobody with a brain thought Gane was a can, Jones is the GOAT, so not surprising he caught Gane off-guard and ended it the way he did. Tom is a brawler, so this was always going to be a totally different fight, with both guys getting hit. We've seen Bones go 5 rounds and almost lose a few times.
