I found it to be very bizzare that Stipe did not go for the submission? Instead of taking francis back when francis had absolutely nothing more to offer and literally couldnt even lift his arms, stipe just used francis as a couch and laid on him.

I thought it was just odd? Theres no doubt in my mind that stipe couldve finished him by rear naked choke. im still left wondering why he didnt end the fight? or in the very least attempt to finish him?

Anyone want to tell me why ??
 
I'd take a guess at saying he didn't want to risk not getting the submission and tiring himself out more and also allowing Ngannou to stand up, or possible end up on top of him

but francis was totally shot.. he barely was even able to get on his feet when the rounds were ending.
 
It seemed more like his plan was just to beat on him and wear him out, rather than go for a sub. But I'm sure he would have taken it if francis really provided the opportunity.

Ngannou WAS game in this fight, despite being completely tuckered out early. He was intelligently defending himself at all times. He just spent almost the entire fight doing that - defending himself. Stipe had his number last night.
 
I think Stipe was gassed too. His arms were probably burning inside his skin. Squeezing a sub was probably going to take more out of him then throwing a bunch of short strikes.

Because, uhhh, choking out a Ford Escort bro.

stipe was gassed and was doing just enough to get his hand raised.
 
He was tired bro. I think Stipe was more concerned with positioning himself to be able to land GnP. I think he wanted to finish the fight with punches. Submissions can be more risky.
 
Maybe Stipe wanted to do that to Francis, just to prove a point or something.

On a side note, I thought DC went pretty easy on Volkan in the crucifix position, but Volkan's face looked pretty fucked up at the end of the bout.
 
At least SOMEONE Learnt from Miocic’s first defense that going for a sub when it’s not super clean can cost you the fight..... Overeem I’m looking at YOU.

Perhaps he did that to further demoralize Ngannou and avoid a future rematch.
 
on a different note, that had to be one of the most crucifying fights of dana whites career. having to watch stipe winning by laying on danas hypemachine for 25 minutes. Dana had to see huge money going out the window in his mind for 23 out of the 25 minute fight. Im sure it was extremely painful for dana to watch that.

Its a risk/reward situation.

What would that sub have done for stipe? Nothing.

I wondered the same. I saw several different occasions where he could have landed a rear naked choke.
 
If stipe was in fact too gassed out to attempt a rear naked choke, then can we please stop hearing about how good his cardio is????

Dana sat there, watching in horror as Stipe sucked the gas out of the hype beast, tamed him and nearly put him to sleep.
