time for conspiracy theories. athletic commission paid off?

Not sure if this has been discussed before, but has anyone mentioned how not having Cain this training camp will affect D.C? in the past D.C has said he wasn't fully prepared for Jones because he didn't have Cain in his training camp and no one gets him ready and pushes him more then Cain..

Go to 11:23 of the video in the spoiler and decide for yourself if he ate it.

Lol add a team makes it work that way but on further examination no I don't think he ate the tiramisu cake. If you look closely, before and after the cake is shown on the plate, it is in front of his friend on a plate while Nurmy does not have a plate in front of him. This is also what he said in an interview. So the aesthetics jive with his story.

My conspiracy theory is similar. DC is major pro wrestling fan, and i'm like 99% sure you can only hit the scale once. So I think he paid off/talked with AC to heighten drama and have that #fakenews first weigh in. I mean, just LOL @ how crazy everyone went when he made it the 2nd time.

DC lost 1.2 pounds in 3 minutes.

Johnson weighed in at 203.8, which is 1.2 pounds below the limit.

Coincidence?

Apologies for the length of this but if you're interested...

Re: Calvillo vs. Gonzalez

I know that Cynthia Calvillo is a blue chip and is training with the Napoleonic grappling-dwarves in Sactown, but I'm telling you, DO. NOT. SLEEP. ON. PEARL HERE!

MY REASONING FOR RECOMMENDING A LOOK AT THE DOG HERE:

Making her sophomore outing, 29-year-old Latina Cynthia Calvillo (4-0) is going to be attempting to build off of what was — for all intents and purposes — a perfect performance against Amanda Bobby Cooper in her Octagon debut just last month.

Calvillo has only fought as a pro for about 8-months but she has a wealth of amateur experience dating all the way back to February 2011 and has long been lauded by the crew at TAM as a future star. In fact, Urijah Faber has boasted that when people need disciplined at the gym he forces them to spar with Calvillo as punishment.

Meanwhile, Gonzalez has competed professionally since 2012 and she too has a deep amateur history in the sport having racked up eight bouts before making the leap to full-time fighter. Riding a six-fight winning streak into her Octagon debut, Pearl has polished off five of her foes before the final bell with future UFC talent Cortney Casey being among the victims.

Though her mechanics are rough and a bit unkempt, Gonzalez is competent in the striking department. She is a former Golden Gloves champion. Pearl works behind an educated jab while often using her kicking game as a smokescreen to setup TD's. By launching a quick HHK she baits her opponent into raising their guard so that she can get in on their hips. A BJJ Purple Belt, Pearl's an astute grappler with good technique. However she has shown herself vulnerable to getting caught in submissions that she shouldn't. Still yet, she remains calm and uses proper fundamentals to extricate herself from the precarious position.

This is an excellent match put together by Sean Shelby (I assume) as both ladies are very similar in all pertinent aspects of the game. Specifically, age, height, reach, and experience among them. Truthfully, there isn't much separating these two on paper, but physically one lady might have a slight edge over the other. That lady is Calviillo. The edge? Wrestling.

That is to say, the most significant difference between these two as far as I can tell is the athleticism and explosive wrestling of Calviillo. While rudimentary in the standup, she has explosive takedowns, is terrific in scrambles and positively awesome with her back takes much like an early version of Kelvin Gastelum minus the Y chromosome.

In short, the two have basically been on regional can crushing tours, yet they can both have shredded their competition and can also claim victory over a legitimate opponent prior to joining the UFC. For Gonzalez it was besting the aforementioned Courtney Casey while Calvillo put a bow on her amateur career with a win over top bantamweight prospect Aspen Ladd.

Having said that, and favoring Calviillo, I do think that the odds are off. At +225 and climbing, I believe the value is on the underdog Gonzalez here. I actually cap Calviillo around -135 with the come back on Gonzalez being +140 at worst. Narrow as they are, Pearl isn't without a path to victory. Be it via strikes, sub. or by using her physicality to pick up two of three with top control.

Pearl +225 risking 1.70 units

For those who haven't seen it already, I highly recommend watching the aforementioned Gonzalez vs. Courtney Casey fight that took place early in their respective careers. The bout was just Pearl's third pro-fight yet you could already see that she was a diamond in the rough. The fight was an awesome back-and-forth grappling contest where both gals put on a helluva show!

Im on Cyn + Bib big dude. Pearl will be well advised not to kick as her kicks are real slow and catchable. In her penultimate fight against a complete bum she was taken down off a kick, and that was how Cyn grounded ABC resulting in the beginning of the end. Pearl is no where near as technical as Cyn on the mat. Cyn is one of the most fundamentally sound women grapplers ive seen in MMA whereas Pearl is pretty loose positionally. I wouldnt say the Casey fight was back and forth. Casey had about five tight subs locked in no idea how she didnt finish Pearl was schooled on the mat until the end. She did show impressive grit and heart tho. But bet your last dollar that if Cyn locks something up she will finish it. What ultimately made me make my mind up betting Cyn was Pearl's fight with Nikki Duncan its on FP check it out. Pearl had a tough cut too weighed in with 5 mins to go and looked bad. Bring the pace Cyn!

But yeah its wmma and im not betting it again if cyn fucks me like grasso did.

I think you guys are overrating Usman takedowns a little bit. He was having trouble getting Alves at the start of round 2. He only got him down him the 3rd round because Alves was totally gassed. And even with Alves totally gassed, he got right back up, and after that attempted a guillotine choke and seemed to be close, and then Usman was able to get to side control and then stay on top for the rest of the fight. Usman best strength is his gas tank and forward pressure. Also, Usman seems to be happy striking, he only shot once his last fight and got the 2nd take down based on Alves going for the guillotine choke. At +570 DEC for Strickland now, there is ton of value in that bet.

Im not arguing theres no value in strick dec. But usman didnt even attempt a td in r1 against alves and alves is tough to td he is a very athletic guy. Usman shut down leon edwards completely with his grinding cage hugging and takedowns. Leon is as good if not bettee than strick. I think he was content striking with alves cos he was under no threat and winning plus you have to be so wary of alves' guillotine attempting tds against him. I expect a more wrestling based approach here.

I love dogs but jeez Usman is just so strong. He is on my list of guys I don't want to fade.

I am buying into MMAGF's logic of riding that Pearl train tho.

I put 5u on Gillespie NSC at + money. I have a hard time seeing Holbrook getting the finish - thoughts?

I really don't understand money coming in on Desmond Green. Emmet is a terrible match up for him, Green is going to get out worked and possibly finished. Green's a good wrestler, good TD's but he's not good at holding his opponents down. On the Feet he backs up a lot and has a low output of strikes. Emmet comes from a wrestling background himself and trains at a wrestling based gym. I think Emmet wins this easy, Green will look good in smaller promotions but he won't fair well in the UFC. The aggression and output of Emmet will be the difference in this fight.

Casuals probably believe Emmett is actually fighting the Predator

Wont matter too much

He already beat Rumble on 3 weeks notice where he spent the bulk of the time getting his weight down

Hes had multiple camps for rumble now, he is as prepared as he can be, Cain or no Cain

LOL I was going to say maybe people are just betting on him cause he's called the predator. Cool nickname and it suits him cause of the dreads. He's also the hometown guy. But still I don't get it, I wasn't impressed all that much when watching tape, I like his wrestling but not much else.

He also nearly died in his last fight, they had him hooked up to an oxygen mask straight after the fight, he fell off his stool and passed out, he was lucky his bum opponent didn't have another round, Green was going to get finished, dude was so exhausted. Didn't rehydrate properly apparently, that was the cause.
