" UFC 160: Why Hunt vs. Dos Santos Was the Best Match in UFC Heavyweight History "

Man awful lot of folk don't like me up in here! =S

I don't claim to be an expert in anything, I like to let my rational approach to analysis speak for itself. It goes down alright with guys like Bendo, The Pit Elevated team, Jason High and a few others though so I guess it's got some value =)

I think you know well enough not to sweat the words of a bunch of Dorito-munching cellar dwellers.

I've really come to the conclusion that most combat sports fans are fans for the end of feeling vicariously tough through their favorite fighters without actually having to be tough themselves. The anonymity of the internet only serves to amplify that X1000.

I think that's why you get so hated on these forums. Dos Santos fans or Hunt haters only want to hear after a fight like that is "Dos Santos >>>>>> Hunt. I was right, you were wrong!!!" Logical analysis on how the fight played out, especially if it gives credit to the loser has no place on here, because it only serves to sour the bragging rights of the fanboys.

This is acceptable analysis on Sherdog:

"JDS PWNED HUNT!!!! Hunt was just an overrated Pride can-crusher!!! UFC PWNZZZ ALL!!!"

Something more like this, and you'd be instantly loved on Sherdog, Jack! :D

I definitely agree they both brought the best out of each other and we got to watch a wonderfully technical striking exchange.

Simply measuring the amount of strikes doesn't show the power behind those strikes or how flush they land. Silly measurement IMO.

Pretty much. They should make a join date forum. Like 5 years or more. I bet that would like completely fix sherdog. All the crap can stay in the heavies and people who actually like fights can have their own forum. You just can't find many threads that arent filled with irrelevant shit.

Yeah, but unfortunately Balli's been here since 2003.

OG troll right there.

Anytime anyone posts "that was the best event, worst event, best fight, worst fight, best KO, worst stoppage" it usually speaks of impulsive analysis lacking historical understanding.

Of course these things are HUGELY subjective but anytime anyone makes a statement that anything is the best they'll get guff. Doesn't matter how many words you use. Doesn't matter what other content you've put out there, you can still make hasty declarations that get dog piled.

I don't agree with your opinion of this fight. In three months you may not even agree with your assessment in the article, when the afterglow fades. But maybe you'll still heart it! ^_^

The fight was too exciting for me. I prefer more grapple-based fights where nothing happens for a few minutes, gives me a break for a while to read the Times.

To me, cricket is still the best spectator sport.

JDS basically dominated the entire fight.. was fun to watch but how is this even a thought?

Win or Loose im a Mark Hunt fan for life.

Because JDS did not dominate the entire fight. Was he winning the entire fight? Yes. But that doesn't mean it was a one-sided beat down. Hunt landed some great shots, especially in round 2. He rushed JDS against the cage, going for a Hunt/Struve kind of KO. JDS ate some vicious shots and shrugged them off.

And then, at the very very end of the fight, after almost 3 full rounds of great striking, we got a spectacular KO for the ages.

How was this not the best UFC Heavyweight fight ever? Name me a better one, please.

In terms if rankings, skill and the overall fight i can see it. Nog vs couture/sylvia is also up there imo.

Polemics come with polemical arguments. You call something the GOAT, you're opening the flood gates :icon_twis

great post by bullitt, putting the revisionists in place. JDS hunt was surely a great fight, but greatest ever? no it's not, and not the greatest knockout either.

And meh to you, as well

Sure there was. Randy had twice been knocked out by Chuck. The fact that he was stepping back in with a 6'8'' 265-pound giant with huge punching power was terrifying, and every second of that fight was nerve-wracking as Randy, for all of his improvements and all of the success he was having, was just one bomb from Timmeh away from having his unbelievable comeback story squashed. The same feeling people talk about during JDS/Hunt, where you know it's just one shot away from ending, that was the feeling for 25 full minutes, where I couldn't believe my eyes at what I was witnessing Randy doing but also praying that he wouldn't make a false step and eat a fight-ending right hand.
Tim was gun shy after the first punch.

Not even going to take the time to respond to the monumental ignorance of this post. Nobody's who's seen even half of the fights I posted could possibly argue a lack of technique.

I was specifically referring to Timmay/Cabbage.

Exciting? Sure, but technical?
