Did this story break in January about the payment and how it was made? No, it broke yesterday/today.


To deny the horrible optics of this is indefensible.

Yes the story about US going to give Iran 1.7 billion from a failed arms deal broke in January, the form of the payment is inconsequential Iran was going to get that money one way or another.

To deny the optics is not as bad as denying the cold hard facts.

Its entirely possible for Iran to imprison Americans on bogus charges to ensure the deal went through, im not denying that, but to equiparate it to a hostage-ransom situation, its a joke.

That would be Reagan who gave weapons to Iran in exchange for hostages.

Yes the deal was known, the clandestine delivery of $400m in mixed currencies stinks.

It was Iran extorting us to provide money to get citizens back and we paid it. This is a horrible precedent to set.

Really? because you say so? you have insider information? when were those guys imprisoned and under what charges? did the imprisonment happened at the same time as part of a coordinated effort? was that plot designed before the US decided to pay or not?

Seriously, you are grasping at straws Iran detains US citizens all the time on bogus charges and releases them all the time too.

Its far more likely that Iran threw these prisoners as a bonus after the US decided to pay in cash (again due to an history of the US denying Iran their own money or simply because the repubican guard wants to embelezz that money) .

I see correlation, i dont see causation.

And its not a democrat vs republican thing, as i already pointed out all republican presidents of the last 30 years have negotiated with terrorists, actual terrorists not just hostile nations.
