You forgot to mention that he didn't win a single round and showed absolutely no heart in those 4 losses.

Woodley is definitely 4th WW of all-time based on WW resume alone.
Lawler could only have a case above him from a p4p standpoint, considering his body of work at MW being himself a WW

If Woodley literally became a professional clown now in his 40s it wont change absolutely nothing about the fact that he was a UFC and Strikeforce WW world champ
 
Woodley is truly a unique record and legacy. Whoever remarked about his losses outshining his victories is definitely onto something.

A big part of examining his legacy is his lack of definitive wins outside of the Lawler, Till and Koshcheck (DHK too but he's not a huge factor legacy wise).

I don't think he won either Thompson fight, his victory over Condit is peculiar, his win over Maia one of the worst title fights ever, his win over Gastelum marred by Kelvin's sickness/inability to make weight.

Never understood the people who argued for Tyron as better than GSP. Truly just GSP haters, I guess.

Woodley is such a weird case in that strictly speaking in terms of his accomplishments (winning the title, defending it multiple times) he's got a great legacy. Yet at the same time, it feels like he fell into the right place, at the right time for a number of his wins, filling a vacuum at the top of the division during a transition period.

A long way to say he probably qualifies as somewhere between 3-5 historically, but I'm open to arguments that place him further down rather than higher up.

Oh, and definitely believe he tarnished his legacy with the JP losses, especially that KO. It's one thing to take L's in MMA as you're declining. It's one thing to close a close, boring exhibition boxing match, but to get starched like that is a bad look and one that will be so widely recalled and referenced... Yeesh.
 
P4p best WW ever. Every loss he’s had since losing the title has been a fluke, including the Paul boxing matches.

Usman owes his career to The Chosen One.

Nah I think they truly believe it and are some weird elitist old school fans that think they're hip because they know who guys like Pele and Pat Miletich are.

Maybe an old-school with obscene USA bias and ignorance about the context of MMA at the time, but even then, hard to take it as anything but a troll.

Pat, while holding the UFC strap, was being finished by Nakao, who was good but not even considered the best his size in Japan.
Pele pretty much outclassed him, even in the wrestling department.
No disrespect though, OG, solid fighter and legendary coach

Right? Like yeah, I can understand giving a guy like Miletich or Pele props for being pioneers from back in the day but far from the greatest. Out of all of Miletich's wins, basically all of the guys never amounted to anything.

Shonie, Mikey Burnett and John Alessio are basically his only wins worth a damn... at least IMO

I'd say Patino and Pederneiras were as much if not more credited at the time than some you mention, although they were undersized for WW.
Rings rules are always hard to judge but taking Tamura to a close dec under such rules deserve respect.

Anyways yeah, certainly not a body of work that qualify for all-time ranks at this point.
 
He was 3rd, behind GSP and Hughes, then Usman came along and pushed him to 4th.

His title run wasn't bad, but he spent a lot of that time arguing with the UFC which didn't help.

Being top 5 WW isn't a bad legacy for him in MMA.
