WILLOW Sequel Series a Go at Disney+, Warwick Davis Will Reprise the Title Role

Disney is re-creating the fantasy world of Willow. Streaming platform Disney+ has greenlit a series based on Ron Howard's 1988 movie. Warwick Davis will reprise his role in the series, and Jon M. Chu is set to direct the first episode and executive produce. Jonathan Kasdan (Solo), who wrote the pilot, and Wendy Mericle (Arrow) will serve as showrunners.

Howard, who hinted at a possible Willow sequel in a 2019 interview, will be an executive producer of the series. The film's screenwriter, Bob Dolman, will be a consulting producer. Lucasfilm will produce.

"Growing up in the '80s, Willow has had a profound effect on me," said Chu (Crazy Rich Asians, In the Heights). "The story of the bravest heroes in the least likely places allowed me, an Asian-American kid growing up in a Chinese restaurant looking to go to Hollywood, to believe in the power of our own will, determination and of course, inner magic. So the fact that I get to work with my heroes from Kathleen Kennedy to Ron Howard is bigger than a dream come true. It's a bucket list moment for me. Jon Kasdan and Wendy Mericle have added such groundbreaking new characters and delightful surprises to this timeless story that I can't wait for the world to come along on this epic journey with us."

The series will be Lucasfilm's first foray into storytelling outside the Star Wars universe since 2015. Willow will be set years after the film and introduce new characters into its world of fairy queens and monsters. Davis will once again play Willow Ufgood.

"So many fans have asked me over the years if Willow will make a return, and now I'm thrilled to tell them that he will indeed," said Davis. "Many have told me they grew up with Willow and that the film has influenced how they view heroism in our own world. If Willow Ufgood can represent the heroic potential in all of us, then he is a character I am extremely honored to reprise."

Said Howard, "It's creatively exciting to not only revisit the world and characters first conceived by George Lucas, Bob Dolman and myself but to see it take flight in such fresh, fun and cinematic ways through the imagination of Jon Kasdan and Team Willow. This isn't a nostalgic throwback, it's a creative lean-forward and it's a blast to be a part of it all."

My favorite childhood movie! Wont be nearly the same without Mad Martigan and the soundtrack from James Horner.

Anyone here watched The Crown?

How about Lilyhammer?

Looking for something good to binge watch.

I tried to get into the Crown, but it never pulled me in.

It was off the heels of binging Victoria.

and Downton Abbey (love love LOVE this) It is so beautifully shot, and the music makes it extra magical. The cast is huge, and the acting is stellar, pulls you right into another world.

I'd suggest both of these over the Crown, with Downton Abbey being the better of the two. It's such a great binge (followed by a movie), makes you want to make toast and coffee and get cozy lol

I've watched the first season of Lilyhammer.

I really liked it, but I still haven't gotten around to finishing the show.

Thanks for the Downton Abbey rec. Will add to the queue.

It's a great period piece, takes place just before WW1, and follows the decline the Aristocracy, while focusing on different classes.

Victoria is an excellent period piece too. So much changed during her reign, and they capture it well there.

Im really enjoying the 2 hbo shows; raised by wolves and the outsider. Disney+ has been a disappointment and had it not been for the hulu/espn package i would have canceled my subscription a while ago. Disney is so rich they should have had new shows in the ready when they launched disney +.

Just finished the first season of Raised By Wolves.

Really enjoyed it. It's great to see a hard sci fi show with an original premise being aired on a major platform.

Here's an interview with the creator and show runner.

He talks about a lot of subjects including production and plot theory, and says that there's six seasons planned out. I really hope that it gets a full run.

He also talks about how he was able to make the show without creative interference from HBO/AT&T after Ridley Scott read his drafts and asked to direct the show as is.

Oscar Isaac to Star Marvel Studios' MOON KNIGHT TV Series for Disney+

Oscar Isaac is in negotiations to topline Moon Knight, the latest Marvel series for Disney+. The dealmaking sets up a return for Isaac to the four-color world of Marvel, as he played the blue-skinned titular villain in Fox’s 2016 Marvel movie, X-Men: Apocalypse.

Jeremy Slater, who developed and wrote Netflix’s comic book adaptation Umbrella Academy series, has been tapped to develop and lead the writing team on Moon Knight.

Moon Knight has had a winding road in the comics since debuting in 1975’s Werewolf by Night #32. Moon Knight is Marc Spector, an ex-Marine turned mercenary whose multiple alter egos allow him to better fight crime. These alternate personas include cabbie Jake Lockley and millionaire playboy Steven Grant. In the later comics, he was established as being a conduit for the Egyptian moon god Khonshu, while recently, he was a consultant who dresses in all white and goes by the name Mr. Knight. Most writers who have tackled Moon Knight in recent years have depicted him as a character with multiple personalities and a fractured mental state.

If a deal makes, the casting of Moon Knight will close out the top billing of the final run of Marvel originals for Disney+, following Tatiana Maslany coming on board to lead She-Hulk and newcomer Iman Vellani being named to star in Ms. Marvel.

Those series join a growing roster of shows Marvel Studios has in the works for Disney+. WandaVision, starring Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany, is set to debut later this year. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Tom Hiddleston's Loki are both working to complete production after facing COVID-19 related shutdowns in the spring.

Isaac is well-known for his work in the genre space with leading roles in the latest Star Wars trilogy, Annihilation and Ex Machina, as well as in prestige fare like Inside Llewyn Davis. He also made an uncredited post-credits cameo in the Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse as fan-favorite hero Miguel O'Hara. He next appears in Denis Villeneuve's adaptation of Dune, now set to open Oct. 1, 2021, and is prepping to shoot James Gray's Armageddon Time.

Netflix and Ubisoft Teaming Up for ASSASSIN'S CREED Live-Action TV Series

Another massive video game franchise is getting the TV treatment. Netflix and Ubisoft are teaming to bring Assassin's Creed to television and will develop a slate of properties based on the best-selling game. The first project under the pact is a live-action, genre-bending adaptation of the game. A search is under way for a showrunner for the project, which is currently in the development stages.

The deal for Assassin's Creed will also see Netflix and Ubisoft mine the game's trove of stories for other live-action, animated and anime series based on the global franchise.

Assassin's Creed joins The Witcher and Resident Evil as games-turned-TV franchises at Netflix as the streamer continues to look for IP with an international reach. The Witcher, for example, is already an international hit and the streamer is also prepping a prequel sinoff of the Henry Cavill drama.

Since launching in 2007, the Assassin's Creed series, which comprises 11 games to date, has sold more than 155 million games worldwide and ranks as one of the best-selling series in video game history. The franchise has already been adapted for the big screen, with the 2016 feature starring Michael Fassbender. The film grossed $240 million worldwide (on a budget of $125 million). It has led to a series of books and other merchandising as it became a global phenomenon.

News of a Netflix deal for Assassin's Creed first surfaced in 2016, when the two companies initially began conversations for a series. A year later, Adi Shankar said he'd be creating the show — which he revealed would be an anime series. Nothing became of either project.

FX's Y: THE LAST MAN Finally Begins Production; Olivia Thirlby Joins the Cast

After several years of development and showrunner and casting changes, FX's Y: The Last Man has at last begun filming. The series based on Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra's acclaimed comic began production this week in Toronto. It's set to premiere on FX on Hulu in 2021.

The start of production is another step in a very long road to the screen for the project, which FX first put into development in 2015 after Vaughan reacquired rights to the comic. The cable network ordered it to series in February 2019, then changed showrunners two months later when Aida Croal and Michael Green departed over creative differences.

Eliza Clark (Animal Kingdom, The Killing) took over as showrunner in June 2019. The series also recast its leading man, with Ben Schnetzer (Warcraft) replacing Barry Keoghan as Yorick Brown, the only survivor of a cataclysm that kills every mammal with a Y chromosome save for Yorick and his pet monkey. The show has also made two other key cast changes, with Ashley Romans and Olivia Thirlby stepping in for Lashana Lynch and Imogen Poots.

Production was slated to start in the spring but was shut down as the coronavirus pandemic spread. To cap off the changes, FX opted in June to move Y from the linear network to the FX on Hulu streaming hub.

The cast for Y: The Last Man also includes Diane Lane, Amber Tamblyn, Marin Ireland, Diana Bang, Elliot Fletcher and Juliana Canfield.

Clark wrote the first two episodes, with Louise Friedberg (Borgen, Nat Geo's The Right Stuff) directing. Women will direct every episode of the first season, and the series has a number of female department heads, including both directors of photography, the costume designer, production designer, casting director, editors and stunt coordinator.

Clark, Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson of Color Force, Mari Jo Winkler-Ioffreda, Vaughan and Melina Matsoukas (who directed the original pilot episode) are the executive producers. Nellie Reed serves as producer.
