Turki Alalshikh: “The PPV model has damaged boxing, we will no longer support it. We are with the fans.”

DW was talking about being open to a change a few months ago. At the end of the day, it looks like the UFC expects their revenue to come from the streaming platform (ESPN, Netflix, DAZN, etc.), and the UFC is happy to let them figure out how to generate that revenue and fulfill the obligations they've committed to in the contract.

UFC: "Ok, gotcha guys. PPV -> PLE"

I think any sensible consumer would cheer on a violent death for PPV.

The only issue is the interests the murder will serve.

The U Fight Cheap PPV model only still exists because they managed to sucker ESPN into taking all the risk. Maybe they will squeeze one more 5-year cycle out of another sucker. But the main model is to be a monopoly content provider for networks/streaming services while minimizing costs.

And if this model is achieved in boxing, we will soon see random bums fighting for table scraps in empty warehouses too.

Netflix can’t even put on a show without having the stream crash.

Realistically though, they want PPV gone cause they are running out of suckers to sell to. Only few % of households can afford a ppv and the households that could are usually boomers that don’t know how to stream. So once they die, no more PPV money.

This is the only reason they are shifting over. PPV profits are dwindling cause no one is around to order them.

Might as well let Amazon stream it so Amazon can hook you into paying prime + extra fees and continue to peddle their Chinese products to you.

They want to host the events over in Saudi Arabia. It isn't PPV friendly since the start time for a normal event will clash with the PPV time.

Look at 318 this week.

Johnson vs Zellhuber - Michael Johnson opening a ppv in 2025

Pitbull vs Ige - Pitbull is old and damaged goods. Ufc are way late to the party. Then you have 50k who gets knockouts sometimes

Kevin Lee vs Daniel Rodriguez - Just doesn't feel like a ppv fight. They are both so hot and cold. Hard to see either as a prospect or title contender....

Paulo Costa vs Roman Kapylov - Okay this is probably the most enticing fight. However both are inactive and I believe unranked. Also Costa is a huge liability

Max vs Dustin BMF - There you have it. The quota "title fight". For a bullshit belt that is contested only when its convenient. Two guys who have fought twice. One of them is retiring. Loll lol

Meanwhile you have Allen vs Vettori which isn't even main eventing the prelims

Who buys this shit????

Theres a reason they havent made PPV numbers public for over half a decade. Absolutely guarantee you with modern day prices and the lack of star power/hype they are probably doing 70-120k for most cards. UFC 300 probably did 500-700k when 100 and 200 did over a million.

What's a ppv?

The big question is what will happen with the money. Will it become a stranglehold contract for boxers, just like the UFC?

Dana White doesn't do it out of solaridity
