I'm still yet to delve into Ken Boothe extensively.
Thanks for this. Good starting point...

Another one I can't believe I forgot
Females love this one... One of the best dance tunes.

Never heard those kick. Got a nice
punk sound to em...

I raise you "Cocaine" to your "Don't Sniff Cocaine"

I used to listen to lots of 3rd wave ska back in high school.

Pietasters - Probably my favorite and the only ones I can still listen to now and not feel super embarassed
old No Doubt
Skeletones
Aquabats
Toasters

This early style of Reggae is great, but I like it more for background music. If I'm really trying to get deep into the music that mid to late 70's era was Reggae at its peak IMO. So much quality music. Even some of these pioneers had their best sound in those years. Much more polished.

Some of my reggae faves
Old school:

I've posted some reggae in
here. Some Barrington levy,
cornell campbell, etc... it's
not far off from rock steady..
Post em up doggy!

I used to have plenty of
friends that fucked with
those bands. Respect.

Thanks for not posting
them though... Theyd be
more fitting to post in
a punk thread..

That steel pulse is good.
Isn't this more dance hall?
I'd consider this "new
school" lol

Good all the same..
Theres a very distinct sound and style from most reggae artists pre 1990 that I consider "old school". I didn't post any dance hall though, just some lovers rock and light roots music.

It makes sense..
Now and days keith sweat
& h town are considered old
school... to me, old school is
still dudes like smokey
robinson or al green.... it's all
subjective. But I forgot about
that genre... "lovers rock"
definitely fits the category...

Good thread. Skinhead culture didn't originate in the Caribbean, although West Indian immigrants def culturally contributed to its formation in the UK. In the carribean they had a similar concept of the "rudeboy" though.
