The barriers between patient and surgery are incredibly high and require consent from multiple medical professionals and parents. If you read the documentation on affirmation therapy the delay between advancement of the process are critical, no matter how desperate the patient.

Also, it's possible they were wrong, or she's simply changing her mind (although this is also incredibly rare). This isn't compelling on any level, if one bad doctor screwed up a diagnosis for heart surgery would you outlaw that procedure?
