Economy Trump's April 2nd Tariffs

I'm no expert but I believe they're devaluing it on purpose to strengthen their exports.

Politically, Xi won't back down because the CCP don't have any particular constituents to answer to in the short term whereas Trump still has pressure (upcoming midterms) to not sink the economy.

I guess we'll see but you don't have a timeline on when China backs down?
It is 100% on porpuse. They aint going to keep sat on goods if americans think they are breaking chinese industry. They are just going to sell it cheaper, even at break even if they need to.

Hmm, Yuan devaluation, almost something China has been doing for decades in order to be as competitive as possible when it comes to exportation. You telling me now they dont even have to force it anymore?

All those goods, now cheaper than ever, will 100% go to europe and south america.
It’s an unsustainable path

I mean, definitely harder because they are an authoritarian government. But, I see capitulation or a disaster for them.

They could not back down for sure, it would really hurt their economy. Maybe they don’t care.

I think now we are getting on the same page this trade war hurts both administrations and countries, and if it keeps going itd be a disaster for both

The question is, which government can endure longer CCP has no problems waiting it out till the midterms where the Republicans would get crushed.

Also, people ITT still mention US "allies", no sane country will look at the US the same after this tariff chaos (on/off on/off pause 10% 100% lol).

Dumb Americans will say "we dont need that cheap chinese crap anyways but smart Americans are trying to sound the alarm that they import a lot more than just cheap TEMU...this will be tangibly noticed by next Quarter.

They don't have to do it forever, ya goof.
It’s certainly a game of chicken, but to espouse that this doesn’t hurt China is ignorant.

I don’t disagree

American drillers also shut rigs down and lay people off when prices make it unprofitable. OPEC+ is already flooding the market and triggering a global energy glut, Doug. How much restriction was there when domestic oil and gas production was at its highest in US history?

It's part of GOP fan fiction that reducing restrictions on drilling and selling more permits increases production.

Oil companies are still sitting on permits sold by the Obama admin and probably even older than that. They only produce what there is demand for. Storing crude or refined oil anywhere but inside of the ground is expensive.

They had to pay people to take it off their hands during the pandemic.

Well said

trump is so stupid he is playing ally games give puting what he wants so maybe he and russia europe will gang on china so america can still be sole supe power lol that is why all compliment for russia so putin would come to trump and see him as good person. lol russia is just using trump they have no interest having america lead them putin just want to tell americans get out of my zone of influence. same thing with this 90 day pause on tarrifs is to gain favorable image in world

No one said that. They were just pointing out that devaluing the yuan is a mechanism that China uses from time to time. It's a flexibility they have. We will not win this game of chicken. Our breaking point will simply come before China's.

That’s an opinion. They can’t devalue it at this pace forever.

I don’t get it? You, a retard, finally make a good point. I comment on it saying as much. What’s the big deal?

Just sayin. Even tards like us can make a good point now and then. I should know, I’m the biggest one on this forum.

The point is why the fuck would we drink our own milkshake when everyone else is giving away theirs for free.

Republicans are obsessed with wasting our own natural resources and it's maddening.

Why are you inserting "forever" into this. This won't go on forever. It's a silly hypothetical in this discussion.
It demonstrates that they have a breaking point. It’s possible that because they are an authoritarian government, they will break before they bend, thus outlasting the US.

It still hurts them a lot.
