Art of the deal. He got everyone to the table to negotiate, despite not bringing anyone to the table. It's all fixed. He did it. The best growth ever. Biden caused the drop. The tariffs are gone, even through many of them are still there at lowee rates for no reason. He's going to give breaks to certain companies. That's normal. No they won't give him things to get them. Yay: President Trump took “yes” for an answer Wednesday, pausing for three months most of his reciprocal tariffs to allow for one-on-one negotiations with the dozens of nations that had come calling since he dropped the bomb last week.
Not paused, but instead redoubled, is the hit on imports from China — a move that’s beyond justified.
Not just because Beijing came back at Trump with its own tariff hikes.
Nor only because it has abused its privileges ever since President Bill Clinton welcomed it into the world trading system three decades ago.
But because its central planners are aiming at global hegemony in manufacturing — a naked threat to every other country’s national security.
China’s state banks have pumped $2 trillion in loans into the country’s “private” industries these last four years, financing not only a ton of new factories but massive automation at existing ones — and so a 30%-plus growth in exports over 2023 and 2024.
The country’s factory output is now larger than that of five major industrial powers (the United States, Germany, Japan, South Korea and Britain) combined.Again, thanks to massive state intervention that has nothing to do with free markets or fair competition.
And that makes no sense except as an effort to put everyone else at Beijing’s mercy.

As it is, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant is right to say Washington retains the upper hand in any one-on-one trade war, since China exports roughly five times more (by value) to us than vice-versa.
Note, too, that much of the rest of the world has been responding to China’s games with higher tariffs — and now may well need to do more if Beijing tries to divert products from the US market to theirs.
Meanwhile, the one-on-one talks can firm up US trading relations with our allies, rather than pushing them into Beijing’s clutches.
And, no, we don’t pretend “this was Trump’s plan all along”: He doesn’t think that way — he often makes moves by instinct, sees the reactions and adjusts accordingly.
Now his team has three months to settle with our allies and other trading partners while his pro-growth policies on energy and deregulation kick in and Congress locks in the 2017 tax cuts and the rest of his program.
The road to the Golden Age is solidly on track.

It only takes the slightest amount of tangible cooperation and unity for the USA to blow everyone the fuck out. And hell, even without it. At one point, China looked inevitable and unstoppable. It peaked at pulling within $6 trillion of America's total nominal GDP, and now that figure is back over $10+ trillion. They have lost major ground, and it's been an unbelievable turn of events.
I know you are. That's because beyond being a self-identified liberal who likes making money, you're a patriot who will support what is best for the country, regardless of which politicians or party it comes from. Like, who gives a fuck? That's for historical bragging rights of another day.
In regards to China, I'm still not sure that tariffs are the answer there even if "we" drop the insane rhetoric and trade wars with every other country. I will say that DJT's "crazy" export controls and FDI restrictions* during his first term were effective, and it's why the Biden Admin continued them. He also secured the flagplanting TSMC investment into stateside manufacturing (which has since ballooned to $165 billion). Biden then passed the most consequential industrial tech legislation of our lifetime, and we got historic levels of capex as a result. Capex that by and large hasn't even begun to bear fruit.
* Normally, this is considered a good economic driver and great for job creation because it entails foreign capital investment into stateside production. For China, their form of "FDI" basically amounts to CCP linked corporations buying up US tech assets as opposed to outright stealing intellectual property. That's what Trump stopped. On the other hand, the export controls Biden expanded on largely choked off access to the materials, machinery, equipment, software, and services required for the CCP to raise a cutting-edge domestic semiconductor industry.
The “I know what the hell im doing” line is some shit Jerry Jones would say while he’s team is last in their division after he does jack shit in the offseason lol.
