Let's assume King Joffery is correct and that we get new highs and that America starts "winning". You bring back factories to America. The questions I have is who is going to buy American made products? Why would other countries buy American made products when other countries can get better quality elsewhere and less volatile owners (i.e. BYD compared to Tesla)? Also, there is nothing stopping other countries from taking American ideas and making them better elsewhere.

I mean have we not seen this movie before decades ago? Ford or Chevy could have made a car as good as the Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic or something like that decades ago. They decided against it. American companies could have made electronics and phones as good as Samsung. They have not unless you are in Apple person. So what makes anyone think if you bring American manufacturing back it will be any good or valuable to the economy in the long term?

Oh just wait until they strip away all sorts of worker protections to “make us more competitive.”
But yeah, there’s a couple of problems with the whole idea. Firstly, the US still manufactures like crazy. Secondly, all these supposedly amazing manufacturing jobs are not amazing, they suck, and Americans by and large wouldn’t want to be doing those jobs anyhow.

Yeah but the expectation of upcoming tarriffs is already priced into the stock market, in fact more than priced in, it was an overreaction. Now that all the wimps who bailed and already sold their stock are mostly done sellling we will see cooler heads prevail and the market steadily recover.

The expectation, maybe. But these are massive tariffs on all kinds of products across like 186 countries or whatever. I’m sure you’ve seen economists’ estimates that these will add $3000-$5000 worth of additional costs per year to Americans. You cannot make things that unaffordable for the middle class and poor without major economic consequences.

People will have to cut back in spending, no two ways about it. And when people all stop spending en masse, sales decrease sharply, and the markets do too.

Other countries don't widespread tarriff us tho. We're low on the export market because of a high labor rate. So how does this work as a stick and carrot negotiation tactic?

Most tariffs against the US are agriculture specific because America has a massive subsidy system for the farmers that other countries find unfair to their own farmers.
