Prior to all of the Trump nonsense, the EU barely had tariffs in U.S. anyhow. Like 1.6% on non-ag products, and I think cars were 10%. Basically everything aside from cars was like 1%. Trump needed to crash global economy to get them to zero?

I addressed that in response to Fedor > Cain already. Not all countries affect US manufacturing. But there are other countries or blocs where zero for zero is preferable. EU is likely one.

Countries like China and Mexico..zero for zero would obviously be a disaster for US manufacturing

I think you know that. If a zero for zero deal was announced with China then the whole thing was pointless. Not so much with Argentina.

But every country is in this for different reasons. Some had existing tariffs on the US, others have massive trade imbalance, and others destroy US manufacturing. The countries that threaten or have been killing US manufacturing aren’t getting zero for zero deals

What as the goal post move hard on this. First Republicans said this was about fair trade and getting manufacturing back in the US. Sorry but you can’t have both.

Let’s say we have tariffs go to zero on both sides. Does that make it cheaper to produce goods in the US? Take Vietnam…. Will it still be cheaper to produce in Vietnam rather than the states? Of course it will!!!

Manufacturing left the US for one reason, capitalism. If a company can produce cheaper in another country they will do it because the market depends it.

So the end result of this fucking mess is the destruction of alliances, massive losses in wealth for the majority of the world, hatred for the US, countries moving towards China for stability, the US losing it’s standing in the world, massive negative economic impacts, and no increase in many in the US.

I get that, and I agree that a zero-for-zero with China would make no sense.
I’m just saying: the EU is supposed to be our ally, and their tariffs on us were minimal to negligible to begin with. Trump really needed to bend my retirement savings over and treat it like Stormy Daniels to get them from negligible to zero? That doesn’t exactly sound like the Art of the Deal to me.
