Economy Trump's April 2nd Tariffs

I wonder if people said the same things as our manufacturing industries dried up over the last 50 years and other countries placed tariffs on our goods?
And the people responsible are backing trump. So if you are mad at the CEOs and business leaders that offshored your job maybe don't support the same guy they do?

For the countries on Trumps board, how many of them can you point out the tariffs that, over the last 50 years, resulted in strangling your economy and job losses?

I am guessing zero.

There have been tariffs, and there are times for reciprocal tariffs. The truth is, this is nothing like that.

A further truth is that these are stupid ideas by a stupid government, and they are lies fed to people looking for simple answers. People will now pay a big price for stupid, simple & wrong answers. The high value of the US dollar means that its harder to manufacture goods in your own countries when someone from a much poorer country will make it for 1/10th of the labour cost. If that seems unfair, many of those countries are in abject poverty where there's no safety, no standards, and life is comparitively worth fuck all compared to in the US.

Just check how the Smoot Hawley Act panned out in 1930. The tariff badly hurt US goods and the economic situation got worse. Global trade basically collapsed and the great depression accelerated. It was an economic bloodbath after tariffs took foothold in policy.

Anyone that thinks a global trade war is a good idea are out of their minds. This is a disaster in the making. Better hope Donald is bluffing and using this as a negotiating tactic, if not prepare your arse for circuit breakers in markets.

There is no industry. There is commerce. There are no people to reside there and hold any form of human activity involved in trading. You are demonstrating enough cognitive firepower to fit in with the local population. You should consider moving there

why you hate penguins?

"President Trump and the Temple of Tariffs"

"What is it with tariffs?

President Donald Trump says they’re terrific.

“To me the most beautiful word in the dictionary is tariff; it’s my favorite word,” is his take on the effectiveness of slapping a costly consumer tax or duty on foreign goods entering the U.S.

“Will there be some pain? Yes, maybe (and maybe not!),” Trump all-capped later in a social media post. “But we will make America great again, and it will all be worth the price that must be paid.”

“Now the Lord said unto Abraham,” according to Genesis, “get thee out of Ur.”

The Lord apparently knew His economics.

“Bad economic behavior contributed to Ur’s downfall,” ancient-economics analyst Steven Garfinkle, professor of Sumerian history at Western Washington University told me shortly after my 2003 stopover at the Great Ziggurat during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

For anyone following this stuff closely, is it true that Trump is trying to bring back manufacturing of cheap goods from countries like Vietnam?

I wonder if people said the same things as our manufacturing industries dried up over the last 50 years and other countries placed tariffs on our goods?
That’s not how it works clown , it can serve to punish foreign countries for unfair trade practices such as subsidizing their exporters or dumping products at unfairly low price .

Tarriffs keep the market fair in our case since we’re very powerful even if we avoided Canadas oil it would still be more expensive to do it here in our own country and that’s just one example of what Trump thinks is a good idea despite everyone telling him how an actual very bad tarriff policy works bc the truth is that big chart he had showing all those Tarriffs was just made up they weren’t even thought out ,he basically just took a marker and started jotting numbers down and called it liberation day even though he hurt us more ,you fool . Lol

@Breaking bones remember that Mr challenging me ,how’s that video clip of me you watched ? 💪

Can you explain which tariffs you're talking about and how big they were so we can compare to the tariffs that the US had?

As for manufacturing in rich countries going down that's both due to that it can be done cheaper in other countries (much lower wages, etc), plus that the processes get more efficient so it takes fewer people to do the same job. Even if one were to believe the complete nonsense that Trump is talking about regarding tariffs you'd see a decline due to other factors anyway.

It's the Democrats' fault guys.

Don't pay attention to the stock market. Cover your eyes. Cover your ears.

It's the fucking Democrats!

Even the fox news comment section is getting butchered for this shit lmao

"Would Joe Six Pack rather have $62 oil, or a temporary slump in the stock market"

Joe Six Pack would rather have a job. $62 oil leads to people in the oil field, like Joe Six Pack, getting laid off.
It's tough to "drill, baby drill" when oil companies have laid everyone off, and scrapped a bunch of stuff.

No drilling for Dougie.

Aside from the enormous amount of legal protections they have, full-fledged national parks are far more economically valuable and sustainable as tourist destinations and boons to the outdoor recreation industry than they could ever be from drilling and mining finite natural resources out from. And even in regards to BLM land, the "national energy emergency" is a work of utter alternate reality fiction; energy corps have very little interest or incentive to continue pumping domestic production right now - which just hit an all-time high last year - considering the worldwide oil and gas glut that is about to take hold.
