For anyone interested in reading a bit on ramifications from Tariffs, I read this a long time ago while Obama was still in office. I thought it was fascinating at the time as I knew nothing of tariffs or impact on global trade (still dont know much)

He imposed tariffs on chinese made tires, it cost American consumers an additional 1.1 billion dollars and virtually nothing was gained by American workers

This tiny tariff is a fraction of what we are about to see.

It was also proven again with a study on the 2018 tariff on washing machines. The prices on imported washing machines went up which allowed domestically manufactured washing machines to also raise their prices because a new baseline was set. This also increased prices on dryers because they are often sold in pairs despite there being no tariff on dyers.

The cost to consumers was not offset by the additional jobs created and the additional revenue to the government. In the end, it is just a tax on us.

Can you explain how these tariffs will work out? The clear consensus seems to be that tariffs are a terrible idea especially how they're being implemented; I have yet to see a clear concise argument for how or why they will ultimately be "successful."

Those were specific targeted tariffs (electric vehicles, solar panels, battery components, and semi conductors) against a single country where the goods in question are in an industry that America is already producing domestically.

No one here is saying all tarrifs are bad. Blanket all industry tariffs against many multiple nations? That's the fucking problem.
