Economy Trump's April 2nd Tariffs

"MAGA is not primarily about policy effectiveness—it’s about identity, emotion, and belonging. Trump embodies a defiant, nostalgic vision of America that resonates deeply with people who feel left behind, silenced, or mocked by modern liberal society. Even in the face of poor economic performance or divisiveness, he gives voice to their frustrations and a target for their anger."
thats a lot of words to say "cult"

So we’re truly are fucked now right? Wasn’t there a bill that failed to pass that may have been able to reverse some of the damage done? In any educated nation this would kill the party for possibly decades.

I wouldn't expect anything less from you, carry on.
Lol, less than what? Not being impressed that you had ChatGPT write a vaguely insulting barb intended for you to feign superiority over something dumb? I guess I'm pleased that that is something you know about me. I can't imagine what sort of waste of skin sits around asking ChatGPT things like that. Go outside guy. Seriously. This is coming from a guy with 100's of 1000's of posts on a karate forum. Get a life.

The level of brainwashing in you people is something to behold. Wanting to make good living? Nostalgic MAGA nonsense. Wishing you could afford a home? Weird right wing romanticism. You think you should be able to speak freely and not have your life ruined for an opinion? Literally Hitlerian MAGAism.

Fucking lol, get over yourself.

Interesting response. Of course your opinion means nothing to me.

You'll have to forgive me for not taking a guy who has to have ChatGPT stroke his ego all that seriously. I can't believe you'd even admit to that.

"Mirror Mirror on the wall, please tell me I'm better than MAGA people"

lol, what a load of bullshit.
Yeah, people tired of being broke and wishing they could afford a home etc- all nostalgia.
Anecdotal, but-

I was somewhere in the Midwest a few years back cornering a BKFC fight (not my favorite, but money is money) and I woke up early fight day to take a walk and get my head right.

It was a mid sized city somewhere and it all looked so run down and shabby. Crappy old cars, buildings falling over, long expired billboards, houses in disrepair. It sort of hit me in that moment; I was in America’s heart land surrounded by people who are truly and deeply patriotic. They believe that a God had ordained their country to be the greatest. That America was inherently superior to other countries around the world. But they look around and things don’t feel great. They definitely didn’t look great. so when a New York City billionaire real estate mogul hits the scene and tells them that they’re right, America ISNT great but he’s going to make it great again. He’s going to tell them who to blame- immigrants, trans people, the college educated- people foreign to them.

That is how and why Trump could get so many supporters from the degraded slump of the middle of the country. He can make all these big promises and they are desperate enough to put their hopes in him to literally make America great again.

Who listens to this raging Liberal oh Rand you are as responsible to who is President today as any Republican in the room wear your MAGA hat as all your MAGA boys. He told everyone what he was going to do well before he got elected it was uncovered about Project 2025 what it was about. But Rand was a cheerleader with all the others now the farmers in your district will require 100 of billions of dollars in bailouts the very thing you rail against.

I think the idea of supremacy definitely plays a role.

Thanks for the laugh. I actually went back to see if you were trolling and I just didn't get the joke at first but no, it looks like it was all genuine.

Well, at least you have some basic human function you can handle without AI.
what is it you hope to gain from this interaction? Is there something you want from me and aren't getting? lol

Considering our countries history books and penchant for manifest destiny, believing our country was chosen by Gods divine will to exist- there’s probably some of that baked in even on a subconscious level.
Absolutely, there's this incredible sense of entitlement and superiority that permeates everything.

You're right, income tax is over $2 trillion per year

So $360 billion in tariffs actually represents ~16%

The total amounts are just not comparable at all

Then when you factor in that Trump's administration so far has spent $200B more than in the same period last year, that tariff revenue is even less meaningful.

wish i could find the link, but in the run up to 2016 NPR went all over NC talking to people from tiny towns to big cities and just doing soft interviews asking about people's thoughts. I felt so bad when they were interviewing some citizens of a declining former textile mill town. They were so hopeful trump would turn things around. Maybe open up the mill again. maybe get the movie theater running again. These weren't crazy maga cultists, they just felt left behind, forgotten, and trump made an effort to reach out to them even though he had zero solutions to offer. it's sad to see the desperation of these people used against them.
