Economy Trump's April 2nd Tariffs

I mean, we don't have to wait and see, it's happening in real time. Consumer confidence is down, prices are up, imports and exports are down, GDP growth is down, the stock market is schizophrenic.
I mean, this is exactly how Trump said it'd go, so yeah. I'll wait and see. I'll wait and see if those new trade deals happen. I'll wait and see if those who have committed to investment in the USA follow through.

No it's not he's still trying to blame the current situation on Biden as of recently as this morning which is obviously just a lie.

We had 2.4% positive GDP growth when Biden left office, and now we're in the negative after just one quarter of Trump's policies.

I recall quite clearly that he said before they even enacted tariffs that it'd be rough for a month or two. We're right in the middle of that now. If we don't get new deals and/or investment by mid summer, then we can talk.

Brother trade deals take years to negotiate stop believing the lies, things aren't going to magically turn around in a month or two. The trade relations are ruined, the supply chains are being shattered as we speak.

All we can do is wait and see. If you're right, you'll get to gloat at our downfall, which is what you love most. Chin up.

this was at the same time as he would bring the prices of eggs and other goods down on day 1, right?

"When I win, I will immediately bring prices down," said Trump.

I mean its almost as though he speaks a load of self-contradictory shite and you guys lap it up anyway

It's so childish.

Dude talks about how powerful tariffs are for years, and then claims that they're not actually doing anything after he slaps on global imports.

...and his zombie fanbase continues to defend him strictly because he's representing all of their culture war grievances.

I think the cause if kind of important if you want to be honest.

Two similar things are not the same thing. It's not that complicated.

This is clearly self inflicted and the result of bad policy.
The cause has nothing to do with the reality of the situation. It was a recession then and if we have 2 negative quarters it will be a recession. Just be honest.

You’re just being pedantic.
No one literally thought it was the end of the world. They were sounding alarms that markets were collapsing and it could be devastating without a change of action.
Many people did. You even said apocalyptic.

The cause has everything to do with the current situation that could have been completely avoided with thoughtful policy.

I've never claimed it was or wasn't a recession in 2022. But this is certainly looking like the start of one. You're just trying to whatabout rather than be honest.

We went from 2.4% positive growth to .3% negative in a single quarter.

I'm surprised any retailer would consider this (at least accurately showing it), since that gives you an idea of margins and to a lesser extent item cost. No one wants that information out where your competition can see it.
With all the back and forth with tariffs, it's not like anyone knows the % of the tariffs of the day anyway lol

I’m not debating the cause of this drop. It’s clearly Trump.

If you aren’t one of the(literally every single person on the left) people who said it wasn’t a recession back when Biden was in offer then I applaud you for standing against insanity.

I mean the only thing insane is trying to hold Biden personally responsible for economic downturn during a global pandemic while also ignoring that the recovery under Biden outpaced all our competitors for the proceeding two years.

I said nothing about accountability.

Dumb fuck wrecked the economy, but still won't acknowledge reality and how fucking stupid this whole thing is.

One thing that always strikes me about Trump and his supporters is they cloak themselves in masculinity but refuse to ever take accountability. Their posturing in response to their mistakes reveals them as boys more than men.
