You do realise Greenland is Danish territory - Denmark is a NATO member and US ally

There is absolutely zero reason for US to buy Greenland, instead Trump could be nice to US allies instead of being a bully with retarded demands.

And Trump has been demanding NATO countries pay and contribute more. Because of this, Denmark already announced they are going to spend a couple billion to increase their naval presence in the area

Seems pretty effective

Every NATO country (that matters) is spending at or above GDP requirements since the Russian invasion started.

Denmark is above targets, at 2.4%. Poland for instance is spending more of their GDP on military than even the US.

The only countries missing spending targets are irrelevant;

Croatia, Portugal, Italy, Canada, Belgium, Luxemburg, Slovenia, Spain.

TBH, I can’t believe I didn’t vote for the guy. It’s 100% a win-win for me. Either he proves me wrong and does some good things, ends up being a net positive for the country, maybe saves me some tax money, or he proves me right by being a disaster—again—and I get to watch his supporters shred their integrity and abandon whatever dignity they had left just to avoid admitting they were wrong for 4 more years. I cannot lose.

Aside from everything else, what fucking century do these clowns think we're in? The U.S. doesn't have a resource-extraction-based economy, and countries that do are really poor. And even if we wanted to get into mining, why would anyone sell resources for less than they're worth? And why would that be the best use of gov't money? The idea is just incredibly stupid. No one would propose or defend it if they didn't feel duty-bound to defend politicians from their party.
 
Greenland is more important than anyone knows... And we should do what we legally can to acquire it...
 
While the United States doesn’t have an extraction based economy, an obvious statement, they are in the top 3 countries when it comes to natural resource extraction and lead in many areas technologically.

The benefit of more involvement in Greenland is for the rare earth material there to offset Chinas big advantage in that space. Additionally, there are numerous advantages militarily to expanding in Greenland.

Denmark would benefit by better relations with our mining companies and we would benefit by having better access to the material.

While I agree that purchasing Greenland isn’t going to happen, I don’t see a real argument against more involvement there from a land purchase and trilateral relationship between the three parties.

Trumps approach is childish and unfortunately leads people to react negatively to this kind of approach.

We already have a base there which the Danes have mixed feelings about, talking about making sovereign claims on the territory while trying to purchase land there sends the wrong message.

I don't think we need to buy land there if we can just reduce trade barriers but Trump is not the guy to do that, quite the opposite he ran on erecting more trade barriers.

Denmark is also part of NATO though they have a special arrangement to limit peace time bases in their territory. Should Russia become a threat in the region renegotiating that arrangement would make sense but alienating the Danes and Greenlanders with Trumps rhetoric makes that harder. Not to mention Trump in general seems to have disdain for NATO so the existing framework for security cooperation is not even something he has faith in.
