We want to work on the evictions so that people don’t get evicted. We’ll work on the payments for the people. And the rest of it, we’re so far apart, we don’t care. We really don’t care. We want to take care of the people. The Democrats aren’t taking care of the people. The payments aren’t enough. The payments aren’t enough. You understand that. They’re not making the payments; they’re not making them high enough. The Democrats are not taking care of the people. Nancy Pelosi takes care of herself, but she doesn’t take care of anyone else.

There's a lot to blame dems for but Republicans are the ones who want to cut the stimulus benefits. What is Donald talking about?

As long as Donald makes the direct payments high I promise to vote for him (wink wink, crosses fingers).

Both sides and all involved including the President are to blame. The stimulus money should only be going to the citizens.

I agree with this. I still dont get why Democrats want to continue with the $600 unemployment, it is obvious that that is TOO high and should be reduced to the $200 republicans want. Right now people who qualified for unemployment are making $2400 + whatever else they were to get from the state a month. That is more than the majority made working full time. Its just ridiculous to keep it at $600 a week + state unemployment.

Also if they add in more to the PPP program then heads should roll. Alot of wealthy people have taken advantage of that and many of the small business that should have qualified didnt.

Start writing your own check Donnie.

they should probably extend the advanced unemployment benefits
And the eviction moratorium as well.

And fuck it, I posted this in the Lounge but I'm throwing it in here too:
So, I don’t think this needs its own thread but given the stimulus talk is ongoing with our dipshit legislature I was wondering if this argument made sense or I’m barking up a shit tree (insert Jim Lahey gif)

The idea of a stimulus check is to stimulate the economy. You can use it to pay bills, get groceries and necessities, save some, pay down debt right? There’s no limit on how you use it (but it isn’t really “free money” I get that).

If the point is to help citizens.... wouldn’t it make more sense to make these recurring for six months at minimum? I know well have to pay for it sometime once everything settles but people are facing furlough days and depending on how many you have or working part time THEY don’t qualify for Unemployment Benis.... but are making less money so are likely just as cash strapped if not more so than people that outright lost their jobs.

Wouldn’t it be a better use of these checks to set them at an amount that is like.... a national or regional average for say rent+utilities so people can use the stimulus on necessities and then use either their reduced paychecks (people with cut hours) r UI (lost job) money for groceries and other stuff?

Add to that, the economic impact of a recurring payment I would imagine is easier to budget for than ones that just pop up irregularly. Just like it's far easier to budget for rent, car payments, and like streaming services subscriptions than it is to replace a transmission in your car that comes out of the blue.
Or am I over complicating this?

The amount of fraud with this extended unemployment bennifts is through the roof
The fucking house voted that the bennifts be self certified....

Meaning anybody can sign up, lie, and collect the money no questions asked.
Like never worked before, fill out the form and lie
Then boom get a back paycheck for 10K
Oh you have a 12 year old who babysit one night? Good sign her up then bam another 10k no body asks.

Oh you're disabled and on SSI? No problem just fucking sign up and lie

I can't wait to see how people react when like 60% of the people on PUA have to pay back the government before they can continue collecting SSI.

It's a nightmare and needs to end immediately

So many people just crippled their finical futures because they lied to be accepted to a federal bennifts package
They ask no questions when they pay you, but believe you me, come tax season it will be time to pay the Piper..

That's when the real riots start
When people who lied to get the bennifit, have to pay back 17K to the feds before they can start collecting their SSI again..

Well that's a terrible idea. How much longer would you like to extend high unemployment rates because a huge number of businesses are forced to shut down and nobody has jobs to go back to?

I guess the whole country can all work for amazon, costco and walmart.

As long as the bill guarantees that the new FBI building is in very close proximity to a Trump hotel I think the average voter will be happy with it. That's very important to us.

Dems in May passed a bill to extend UI, another round of stimulus checks, hazard pay for workers, and funding to safely re-open schools.

What exactly is Trump's policy? So far it's been to wait 10 weeks after the Dems passed a bill to even propose his own, which seeks funding for military weapons and FBI buildings along with social safety net cuts. Maybe the guy should actually propose something serious after doing nothing for nearly 3 months.
