You can't be serious...
I mean, it's not like our politics were ever free of unpleasant interactions, but Trump deliberately mocks and belittles everyone. He calls people names, makes up all kinds of shit, and gets cheered non stop for being outrageously toxic. Remember when he definitely-didn't-imitate-a-disabled-person? His base gaslighted about the whole thing while enjoying that he did it. Trump understands this on an instinctive level in the same way a spoiled child knows what they can get away with.
The reason is because double standards are a way to show and exercise power. Trump gets a pass because it makes people feel empowered to watch him get away with shit. The more he does and the less he's taken to task, the bigger that feeling grows.

Are you really going to sit here and pretend that a huge part of Trumps appeal wasn’t because he completely broke with political norms?
Of course it was, but you're living in a dream world if you think the norm was complete civility in politics.

I certainly don't feel empowered by somebody belittling another person. I mostly only saw people being mocked by Trump after they went at him first. Was his response always proportional to the criticism he was responding to? No, but that's Trump. What we've seen in response to him though, is that false veil of civility was pulled away and exposed just how slimy and evil politicians can be when someone doesn't play their game. Trump didn't sink the decorum in politics. He held up a mirror to Democrats and proved it was never there to begin with. They prove him right time and time again. Just look how openly evil some them and the media have become. You can have a TV anchor publicly call for the sitting President's execution? Trump didn't cause that. He exposed it. This idea that we lived in some political utopia of civility and honor before Trump came around is ludicrous.

It would be interesting to track the decorum of US politics and try to look back to figure out when things got so fucking bizarre.

Trump is the culmination of it but I really wonder when it all started and with whom
For my lifetime, I can remember how Republicans really pounced on Clinton with the affair scandal, but with Bush Jr. and the Iraq War, you really saw it sink to a new level. With good reason, of course. Obama was supposed to be the way out of that but it didn't happen either.

We lived through the end of a period of high civility; want an interesting read, check out the infamous brawl in the Louisiana floor back in 1929. They were using brass knuckles lol

I was thinking Clinton getting a beej was probably when things started to take a turn. Even with bush dragging us into bullshit wars and all the protests that came from it the level of discourse in Washington was far more elevated than it is now.

They attacked Obama for all sorts of bullshit (bike helmet, tan suit, inviting black poets to the White House, etc) but the actual politicking from the senate and house were still far more civil than we see now. It’s just so bizarre

Guy showed up in a tan suit one day, and it was all over.

In all seriousness, it's just a reflection of society brought on by social media. They saw how we talked to each other with no consequences, and tried to relate. Trump recognized this faster than most. He did not care for decorum, and just said what people were really thinking deep down inside. Obama recognized the power of the internet as a communication tool. Trump evolved on that and recognized the power of social media within it. That's why Trump would've had no chance in the 90's and 00' and would've been nothing more than 1% celebrity candidate, but became a superstar in the 2010's.

We're driving this shit. They're just responding. That's where your MTG's, AOC's, Crockett's etc. come from. They're all basically Twitter accounts with human bodies.

ColemanGoat (whatever his name was) was a smooth brained brainlet and lying degenerate. Good riddance to bad rubbish. I know he's still lurking though...

Coleman...if it's any consolation, in the next annual War Room Awards thread, I will be voting for you for the prestigious Starman Award. I believe you are a shoo-in.

You just spoke my mind. Not all right wingers are equally bad but coleman was a different type of toxic. it was mentally draining for me to engage with him.
The constant gaslighting, manipulation, disrespect and lies was just too much.

It is depressing how true this really is. I don’t think it’s necessarily social media itself, but the monetization of social media. This wasn’t a problem when myspace was all the rage because regular people weren’t making a ton of money hocking products, selling ads, etc.

I would be very curious to know what the code and programming under the hood looked like for MySpace compared to the addiction based stuff that we have now.

Anyone who hasn't totally jumped off the MAGA train after:
-Trump lies, cover ups, threats, implication, & complicity with Epstein Maxwell & other Child Abusers
-Tump putting Israel, Russia, South Africa, India, Pakistan, Brazil, & Elsavador, first through policy war & focus.
-Trump creating hyper inflation and tanking the economy with a trade war.
-Trump openly stating he wants to increase immigration for white South Africans & work visas for Indians Pakistanis to take American tech or higher skilled jobs
-Trump having companies pay him
- Trumps clear violations of the constitution & American tenants through policy, flirting with a third term, the militarization of police, & threatening to deport/ jail innocent citizens.

They dont have ANY good faith arguments about why they support Trump left. They dont have a leg to stand on based in fact.
He broke EVERY campaign promise except for deporting hard working Mexicans & breaking up their families. Even still there are some hard-core MAGA muppets like a hateful loser named Heavy Duty County on YouTube who are now furious and giving Trump shit because the deportation numbers are NOWHERE close to what he promised or says. Lmao hahaha.

The ones being civil but still defending him are just as hateful & deranged as ColemanwasCAN is. They are just too cowardly to deal with the social consequences to say why they really still support or make excuses for him.

It still utterly baffles me that anyone, especially fathers with daughters, can continue supporting him at all.
You'd have to be actively ignoring his every move or accept the things he does that screw you over, and you'd have to believe it's for the greater good (owning the libs)

Some MAGAs might grumble about a few things, but they will worship him until he's dead. Any failures will either be ignored or blamed on the left.

America has eroded into a superficial dishonest culture for almost everything. Honesty isn't valued at all about almost anything. A huge part of that is never being honest about their main priorities or likes to others. My theory has always been that they just virtue signal or dont want social consequences. It was proven right when Trump literally broke and stepped on their sacred smokescreens about why they support him but aren't monsters.

I have literally known 5 and 6 year old children who had more guile than Donald Trump does:

Donald Trump was asked about the Epstein files again in a meeting with the media on Friday, and his response has folks talking.

“I’m in support of keeping it open,” the president said when asked about the Justice Department sending the files to the House Oversight Committee. “Innocent people shouldn’t be hurt, but I’m in support of keeping it totally open, I couldn’t care less.

“You’ve got a lot of people that could be mentioned in those files that don’t deserve to be,” he added. “Because (Epstein) knew everybody in Palm Beach. I don’t know anything about that, but I have said to (Attorney General) Pam (Bondi) and everybody else, give them everything you can give them because it’s a Democrat hoax.”....

“Bill Clinton was on his plane and went to the island supposedly 28 times. I don’t want to bring that up frankly,” Trump said while bringing it up. “Larry whatever his name is … Summers, he was Jeffery Epstein’s best friend. Nobody ever talks about that. But I don’t want to hurt Larry Summers. But he was best friends with Jeffrey Epstein.

.....

hahahahah
