He got eviscerated by Trump and kissed the ring, just like Lyin' Ted and so many others. He's a young guy, and should have just waited; instead, the world got a demonstration of his spinelessness. Was it the death knell of his political future? No, but it definitely wasn't helpful.

He kissed the ring. In what way was he eviscerated? trump talking trash is mouth diarrhea. One real threat for 9 empty ones. Wait for what? For Trump to waste more political capital and be inneficient? He should have waited until Trump fills the party with more clueless family members?

The source said that the Trump team was taken by surprise after a serious sexual assault allegation against Hegseth came to light, which led Trump’s incoming chief of staff Susie Wiles to question the former Fox News host on a call last week. Hegseth was never charged with a crime and denies the allegations.

“People are upset about the distraction. The general feeling is Pete hasn’t been honest,” a second source told Vanity Fair.

A “prominent Republican” close to the Trump transition team told the outlet that some are also unhappy with the president-elect’s choice due to Hegseth’s lack of qualifications to lead the nation’s defense.

“There are Republicans with a background in the Defense Department who are privately saying, ‘I’m not working for this guy,’” the source said.

I prefer this over Hegseth. DeSantis is experienced in the field and a reasonable pick for the GOP even if you dislike him.

DeSantis would replace Pete Hegseth, whose prospects for confirmation appear to be dimming amid allegations of sexual assault and alcohol abuse.

A final decision has not been made, according to the two people, who were granted anonymity to discuss internal matters.


Bringing DeSantis into the Trump administration fold could help the governor’s political prospects given that he is term-limited and scheduled to leave office in early 2027 when it was anticipated he could run for president again. It would lead to the ascension of Lt. Gov. Jeanette Nuñez, who would be the first female governor of Florida and the first of Cuban descent.
The Wall Street Journal first reported that Trump was considering DeSantis. Hegseth is still meeting with senators this week and has a planned appearance on Fox News on Wednesday morning with his mother.

Um not really.

DeSantis was just a Lt. Commander in the Navy, this might sound impressive, but it's a junior NCO rank. Though being a governor is certainly more relevant managerial experience than a talk show host.

Still not a great pick for such an important position considering all that's going on today. Perhaps if things were more stable globally we could settle for a more political appointment. If China is going to invade Taiwan it's going to happen during Trump's term.

We need a real experienced general for the position, imo.

Bro, he’s changed now bro. It’s not just because he stands to gain something from kissing the ring, his opinion completely changed on Trump because of what Trump did as president (insult vets, cut benefits) and not at all because he wants a place in trumps cabinet or the Republican Party in general.
 
Whatever he and Gaetz could've done, Trump could simply pardon them to shield them from these vicious derranged attacks from the left. Am i doing this right?
