Trump Opens Door to Cuts to Medicare and Other Entitlement Programs

WASHINGTON — President Trump suggested on Wednesday that he would be willing to consider cuts to social safety-net programs like Medicare to reduce the federal deficit if he wins a second term, an apparent shift from his 2016 campaign promise to protect funding for such entitlements.

The president made the comments on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. Despite promises to reduce the federal budget deficit, it has ballooned under Mr. Trump’s watch as a result of sweeping tax cuts and additional government spending.

Asked in an interview with CNBC if cuts to entitlements would ever be on his plate, Mr. Trump answered yes.

“At some point they will be,” Mr. Trump said, before pointing to United States economic growth. “At the right time, we will take a look at that.”

Thanks for the campaign commercial you fucking retard.

In case people aren't aware, the Republican base is very old. Despite all the talk of hating welfare, these old hypocrites really love them some SS and Medicare.

This campaign commercial will kill Trump's chances at re-election, and I look forward to him denying that he ever said this, when that reality slaps him in his fat face.

Naw. We don't count this as debt.

That trillion dollars a year debt you keep hearing about. That is called unfunded liabilities.

SS and Medicare fall under a different category called funded liabilities.

Our true national debt isn't 20 Trillion, it is more like 80 Trillion on the conservative side of math.

This is another thing I’ll break ranks on. Besides foreign policy.

don’t you dare touch Medicare or social security.

who is telling him to do this treacherous shit? It’s like he listens to Ben Shapiro’s podcast. I bet it’s kuschner. Who else could hate Americans so much.

tax the rich. Tax Bloomberg into middle class living. Stop immigration. Send back illegals. Get the church and community back into american life.

for fucks sake help our people for once!!!
AMERICA FIRST! not the globalist elite who seek to destroy us with policies like this.

Trump must be getting so much love in his inner circle finally for his iran warmongering that he is listening to people telling him to do this!

his platform was to NOT TOUCH SS or Medicare/aid!

bring back BANNON! For the love of God!

I read this earlier. It really is baffling to hear. He ran on not cutting SS and medicare in 2016, while his republican opponents were talking cutting stuff. And now like seemingly everything, he flipped. Unless he wants to lose in 2020, which he doesn't, it is a really stupid thing to say.

It's possible he wins but loses both the House and Senate as voters seem to take it out on their local reps when it comes to issue like this, as Trump and Co learned in the Midterm whooping they took/

"Looking at it at some point" is a pretty big leap from "plans to cut SS and medicare". It was a really stupid answer and he should have just said no because he knows damn well everything he says is going to be taken with the most uncharitable interpretation and will cost him a very large reliable voting group.

They should change eligibility requirements, he just shouldn't say it. Social security is the #1 expense and it goes to the wealthiest age demo. Keep it for most, but cut it for people above a certain net worth. We don't need to bankrupt the country giving Warren Buffet social security payments.

Fyi, it isn't a cut to the rich that is needed. It is changing the cap on taxes of 110k.

They are the ones that matter, and are political suicide to touch.

    yeah.

But Id support a crackdown on people that abuse the system. Many many leeches abusing SS.

And I like nostros idea that if you’re rich, you don’t get SS. Just consider it a wealth tax. For anyone who makes over 250k a year or something like that.

The most successful welfare programs ever, are the one's everyone gets.

Divide and conquer is quite an effective tool as I'm sure you know.

I agree, he definitely shouldn't and it would lose him the election to almost anybody if he did. Saying he's planning to is taking an awful lot of mileage from a very vague answer though.
