Because he's insecure and butthurt that Romney called out his atrocious record with new capital ventures:

The NPR goes down the list one by one, but this one might be the best:
NPR said:
Trump Winery

The table was stacked with bottles of Trump Wine, and Trump declared of the winery, "I own it 100 percent, no mortgage, no debt."

The winery's website says something different: "Trump Winery is a registered trade name of Eric Trump Wine Manufacturing LLC, which is not owned, managed or affiliated with Donald J. Trump, The Trump Organization or any of their affiliates."
Can't wait to hear all the Trump supporters talk about how little this matters, and all the excuses for why Trump can just say whatever the hell he wants, no matter how consummately, objectively, and verifiably untrue it is. Why? Because he isn't part of "The Establishment". Apparently this means that you aren't subject to widely shared codes of conduct, morality, honesty, and decency.

Maybe nobody "owns" this man, but it's difficult for me to care when he is so clearly unwilling and unable to own the simple truth. Just once. He can't do it.

If he is so contemptuous of my intelligence, that he believes he could tell me such an easily provable lie to my face and suffer no consequences for it, then it is obvious he would never tell me the truth if he saw any personal cost incurred by it. He has no conscience. Literally none at all.

Either this matters to you as a voter, or it doesn't, but it can't be defended. If you can support a candidate through something like this, then you've forfeited your right to bitch about politicians lying. Spare the world of these crocodile tears. You don't care if you are lied to you. You don't genuinely believe it's a problem. Not only do you clearly not mind being lied to, and not only do you clearly not mind your leaders believing you are incomprehensibly stupid, but you probably like it.

In fact, you're probably trying to disregard this as a non-issue, or you're trying to figure a way to spin this into a positive. Right this moment. Aren't you?

He is a meglomaniac.

There is plenty of wine for everyone.

It's going to be great.

so because he bought it, and then gave it to his son, he can not have any claim over it? If you bought your son a car, would you still not feel some entitlement towards it?

Also, the way he went about purchasing that land was a great FU to the banking system. I would take claim for it as well.

and im not a trump guy.

I tried to suspend disbelief for his product-heavy victory speech, and what I was inclined to think, based on his charisma and manner, was basically this:

"Refuted Mitt Romney point by point. He's sounding a lot more presidential lately. So what if he's lying- Cruz is allergic to the truth- at least Trump is more honest than a typical politician..." and so on.

He has the ability to make me unintentionally sympathetic to him, so long as the critic in my head stays out of it. It's impressive.

Yes, that means you don't have any claim over it. That's literally precisely what that means.

100% owns it = not affiliated with Donald J. Trump in any way.

Okay.

Well, when compared to calling Trump Hitler because people raised their hands at a meeting. I would say Trump is winning the legitimacy competition with the media at this point.

This is why all these attacks aren't going to work. You are attacking Trump's legitimacy, and his supporters don't care that he doesn't have any, because neither does anyone else.

Yes, that means you don't have any claim over it. That's literally precisely what that means.

yeah if you want to get mad over it, sure. I could see the outrage if it just happened to be owned by someone named Trump - with no direct relation and never, ever having any involvement. But, Don did buy it and just gave it to his son - to me, that makes it far less of an outrage point.

Okay. In that case you clearly fit the bill of the type of voter I described in the OP. You don't mind someone lying to your face.

Well, then you're a pitiful apologist.

Media outlets like the Huffington post (as well as the many politicians, pundits, and entertainers who have weighed in with the analogy) are free to editorialize with analogies. This analogy was already being drawn long before the "Heil" salute taken out of context by some. In some cases, such as his call to ban all Muslims from immigrating, there are literally few other historical figures to analogize, and it isn't an outrageous analogy.

Trump literally just lied to the media's face. This isn't a matter of editorializing. That's a boldfaced lie. There's zero legitimacy.

Yet you just compared these things, and ruled in favor of Trump. Intredasting.

It really doesn't matter. So Trump lies? Ok, so does every other politician who ever held the presidency. People already view Hillary, Cruz, and Rubio as less than honest people. Pointing out that Trump is also less than honest doesn't really move the needle in any direction.

Trump's appeal is not that he's a genuine, well behaved, good samaritan who would never tell a lie. His appeal is that he appears as if he won't be bullied or scared by either party or the "establishment". Trump has sold himself as his 'own man' not a party stooge. That's the appeal you have to attack if you want to take away his support.

Peeps to buts hurt over Trumpi. So he goofed, so what. Better him then the other trash that are politicians. The lols of him being the one is to good to pass up, and lets face it he wont do any worse then any one else. And the sham hes exposing the whole system is like is a great service.

Winery is trumps son ? he can from Trumps balls. Thus Donald owns all, beat thins logic mofos.

this needs to be pointed out. and i hate that republicans will settle for a liar as a candidate when the democrats demand nothing but 100% honesty form their candidates!

Okay. In that case you clearly fit the bill of the type of voter I described in the OP. You don't mind someone lying to your face.

Or i dont see the outrage you're trying to express here. As far as lies goes, it really, really miniscule. He bought and gave it his son - so he takes a little claim for that - oh no!!!!

People talk about how tough he is, but he's the most insecure candidate I've ever seen. He spends so much of his time whining about people attacking him and telling everyone how great he is. He tries to gain sympathy for being attacked when the guy has played the bully from the start. It's sad really.

Can't stand Hilary, but the GE is going to be hilarious. I can just imagine this "tough" man constantly crying over Hilary attacking him unfairly.

I think Trump was just editorializing then.

Bernie Sanders said that no white people are poor, only colored people live in ghettos, and women fantasize about being gang raped.

Trump said he owns something that he previously owned but no longer owns.

Hmmmmm....... I wonder which lie is going to resonate more in the general election?

What's even the point?

Doesn't he know he is just going to called out on it? Or is it a "more people will hear the lie than the correction that follows" type of thing?

One politician being a sack of shit doesn't excuse the others.
Bernie and Trump are both garbage.
