Trump: Government will not reopen until we have a wall, a fence, whatever they want to call it

It very much depends on the type of wall. For a 20' high block wall, it would probably be at least $800 per linear foot so it should cover 1100 miles but I may be underestimating the price because it depends a lot on the environmental factors such as the soil condition

For that particular full steel slate posts that I linked up, LOL forget it

Iirc a big chunk of cost is obtaining the property on which to build a wall.

Can someone explain what is the problem? Is it still cost? Would some barbed wire and land mines serve the purpose better? Should we simply allow what has happened across Europe to happen here?

Net. migration. across. the. southern. border. has. been. negative. for. a. decade.

The border is literally only an issue in the delusional minds of pants-wetting racists.

He has literally caved on this very subject. Notice how Mexico is not paying for the wall?

Mexico will pay through trade. He has made them suffer just like he has made China suffer. You’re delusional if you think another nation would ever write a cheque. He has Mexico by the balls and so would any American president who decided to flex on them using the American economy. He’s just the first to do it.

If that’s the best you’ve got for Trump “caving” then you’re clesrly embarrassing yourself. Caving will start when the new congress starts.

This is simply untrue. A complete lie. You won’t get away with it lol. Nobody believes you. 10’s of thousands of illegals cross each month, no technicality is going to change.

Obama said it. Trump said it. Clinton said it.

They have no right to do so. They are screwing over Mexicans and central americans doing it legally.

I’ll gladly give Trump his Wall for universal healthcare.

That’s a deal I’m willing to make any day of the week

I agree.

+ Universal Health care would cost us less without an influx of illegals getting coverage. Not that a wall would stop them all, but it would help.

Trump ran on shutting down the government to get his wall? The truth is Trump was utterly devoid of details on how to fund the wall during his campaign except for one - Mexico would pay for it. Telling the voters how much it would cost would have made his idea even more unpopular than it was. So no, he lied to voters during the campaign.

That's not accurate. Trump hypothesized about how Mexico would pay for the wall, even during his campaign. In 2016, Trump sent a 2-page memo to the Washington Post outlining several options on how Mexico would end up paying for the wall:

Trump reveals how he would force Mexico to pay for border wall

Trump's Plan To 'Make Mexico Pay' For The Wall
https://www.npr.org/2016/04/05/473109475/trumps-plan-to-make-mexico-pay-for-the-wall

Whether it was through cutting off remittances, taxing them, renegotiating existing trade deals, etc..., Trump outlined a variety of ways that Mexico would ultimately provide funding for the wall. Mexico cutting a check directly for it was not one of them.

Trump threatens Mexico's biggest cash source

The Trump administration said it still expects Mexico to pay for the border wall — but it's still demanding $5 billion from Congress
https://www.businessinsider.com/the...cts-mexico-to-pay-for-the-border-wall-2018-12

Regardless of how this money makes its way into the coffers of the U.S. government, Mr. Trump still needs congressional approval to allocate funding towards building the wall. It isn't as if the Mexican government can cut a check to Mr. Trump personally, or even to the U.S. government, and stipulate that the funds be put towards border security.

Donors, even American citizens, can't donate/gift money to the government and then stipulate how that money is spent. That is why the current GoFundMe account for the wall will ultimately be refunded to donors. All money donated/received must be set aside for "general use", and then go through an allocation process.

The ridiculous idea pushed by the left-wing media that Trump never had a clue how Mexico would pay for it, or that he's gone back on his word because he's asking congress to allocate funding towards the wall, is ignorant, dishonest, or both. Trump was very clear about how Mexico was going to pay for it. And asking Congress to allocate funding towards the wall is a necessary step to getting the wall built, regardless of how Mexico ended up paying for it.

Okay

I think he might be referring to the Filibuster but if old-fart Mitch won't budge on that, nothing is happening.

I don't know what other 60-40 thing he's referring to.
I get what he's talking about, just not so clear on how he thinks Trump is going to get rid of the filibuster

Thanks for the communist update. How again did Trotsky's Bolsheviks handle immigration?

But, yes, I know that there will be no convincing you of facts that you don't want to believe.

Nice deflection.

I see that you don't care about the facts. You'd probably support building a sky dome to prevent migrants from the Moon, because that you believe there is an epidemic of Moon illigulz is all that matters.

Wow, so you also don't understand how laws work huh?
How is Trump going to nuke 60-40 and why would that be good? How is nixing something that requires a majority so that one person can make the decision alone not harming the democratic process? I'm trying in earnest to understand this.

Shut up! I'm the President and if you don't shut up, I'll tweet some very bad things. <DC-Champ><DC-Champ><DC-Champ><DC-Champ>

So....How long you think this shutdown lasts, MC?

I say it lasts into February.
Fuuuuuuuck
I dunno. I'm a bit knocked over by the demand after a bipartisan agreement, and the appearance that certain teevee personalities called the shots.

At least February. With a metric shit-ton of posturing from all sides

Just remember this when he caves, because he will, like always. Eventually even he'll realize that his bargaining position is not one of equality or power as the days go by.

He could've had 25bil earlier in the year. Too bad, baby.
Yeah schumer 's a real idiot. shouldve took that 25 bil. I agree his bargaining position is shit. Trump always wins, when will these turds get it? amiright broheim?

Haha holy shit you’re a propagandist. Who do you think you’re kidding?
Net migration has nothing to do with it. There are hundreds of thousands crossing illegally every year. ILLEGALLY. It’s not about whether they’re Mexican and net is completely irrelevant.

See my previous post.
Okay, per your sources he threatened to stop remittances, but your last source also says they'll find ways around it and that no one in Mexico plans to capitulate to Trump.

Alberto Ramos, head of Latin America research at Goldman Sachs (GS), says that when wire services charged high fees a decade ago, Mexicans still got their money across the border either in-person, through the mail or via traveling relatives.

"If you tax that money it won't necessarily stay in the U.S. It can still go to Mexico through informal channels," says Ramos.

It seems thus far like "half baked" is the correct description of Trump's "plan".

So you agree that more are leaving via the border than are arriving via the border illegally?

Yeah, so then you also admit that your super pressing problem actually isn't a problem at all because it's fixing itself.

Also, I'll just assume that "net is completely irrelevant" roughly translates to "net is a term that I do not understand."
