Dems’ strategy today was to remind everyone that Hegseth cheated on his wife, drinks too much, and hates woke politics. Seriously, who cares? Watching Tim Kaine grill him about his affairs was one of the most embarrassing things I’ve ever seen. At one point, someone asked Hegseth to promise not to drink alcohol anymore. Absolutely ridiculous. It took way too long for anyone to bring up actual policies or what Hegseth plans to do as Secretary of Defense in terms of, you know, defense!! The dems were ridiculous for most of the hearing.

That said, Hegseth didn’t exactly shine either. He seemed unprepared at the start, giving non-answers early on, though he did improve as things progressed (or maybe the dems just got worse, hard to tell). And why did he struggle so much to articulate his stance on women in combat roles? Just say what you believe, just own it. Plenty of people agree with you anyway.

I respect Hegseth’s military background and academic credentials, and I agree with a lot of what he has to say but let’s be real: he has no experience. I get the appeal of wanting a different approach, I really do, but this is one of the most important jobs in the world. It takes more than strong opinions, a fresh perspective and good intentions to run the DoD. I’m skeptical but hoping he proves me wrong and does a fantastic job.

I agree with a lot of what you say, mainly the assessment of the hearing. I thought the republicans missed a few opportunities to dunk on the dems a few times. Especially with leadership going AWOL.

Dunno if that was Hegseth not being prepared, or GOP staffers knowing they have enough votes to confirm him and didn’t care.

However, in terms of being able to run the DOJ, as people would deflect to Biden, even about Austin, they are figure heads to an extent and have teams.

I honestly cannot think of anything significant Loyd Austin has done, other than pose for a photo, fist bumping a soldier with a face shield and face mask on. As well as a photo fist bumping Zelensky. Other than actually going AWOL

Haha, some of the democrat senators pulled the same shit during the hearing. One of the male democrats, I forget which as I was only listening to audio, but they basically said, “one of your former coworkers was accused of sexual harassment, if you had done that, doesn’t that disqualify you?”
Without giving any additional details, including if the person was guilty, it ever went to trial.

It was truly bizarre. Interesting even Cuomo is calling out the democrats. His whole thing now is to call out both sides, but he only calls out the GOP senators for bringing up DEI and trans things. That was weak, especially given LA, but he completely shreds the democrats lol
