True Lies (1994)

I freaking LOVED True Lies. I still enjoy the hell out of watching it roughly once a year. It's a great movie all around.

Though I think Jingle All The Way was Arnold's last great film. I loved that one too and it's a must watch every Christmas season. Junior wasn't bad. It was different but enjoyable. Eraser was meh/decent. Everything else has been shit.

@shadow_priest_x, You should just start a thread titled "Popular movies from 23-30 years ago that I haven't watched."
Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, 48 Hrs (watched once, maybe), Fugitive, True Lies...how long is this list going to be?

I can't believe you'd condone a movie like this that has an Arab actor playing a terrorist.

LOL

If we're talking action movies--which is what I've really been focusing on--then I've actually hit a wall in terms of coming up with new stuff. That is, at least in terms of the really popular stuff I missed. I'm sure there are plenty of less popular films that we could come up with.

Yeah it's a pretty standard B story to the A-story and very well done. I didn't pay attention as a kid, I was kinda surprised based on the type of film when I first found out she was nominated for best supporting Actress. But she definitely deserved the nomination.
I barely remember an alligator scene. Which sucked.

Well, based on what you haven't seen until recently, I feel like it's unsafe to assume you've seen any particular movie.

I'd suggest, offhand, Beverly Hills Cop 1 and 2, Lethal Weapon 2, all Rocky movies, all Rambo movies, Days of Thunder, Under Siege, Death Wish 1 and 2, Conan the Barbarian, Highlander, Speed, Stone Cold, Black Rain, Romancing the Stone and Jewel of the Nile, The Golden Child.

Seen all those but the Death Wish films (which I'm really not interested in) and Stone Cold, which I can't say I've even heard of. That's a popular action film?

Not even entirely sure what I would call it... Slightly tongue-in-cheek, slightly self-aware blockbuster 65% action 35% comedy. Once in a blue moon you get your True Lies or Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and then most of the time you get something quite unmemorable. Rarely or never does the potential ceiling rival The Terminator or The Godfather or Schindler's List.

Now that I see Schindler's List with those two, will watch. Got me by the halls.

It was heavily marketed at the time. It was Brian Bosworth's foray into Hollywood as a major leading man, which lasted only one film. The movie is better than a Bosworth vehicle should be, and Lance Henriksen's performance alone makes it worth watching.

Hmm. Maybe I'll give it a look.

If it was actually solid, why do you think Bosworth never made another film?

Well, Bosworth's limitations are somewhat apparent in the film. He's not terrible, but he's also not a gifted actor. He's legit as a Sven Thorsen or Jesse Ventura kind of guy. The movie made less than $10M at the box office, so it didn't really give anyone much reason to pour tens of millions into future Bosworth projects. He's not the first pop icon to be one-and-done in the movie business... Vanilla Ice, Cindy Crawford, Michael Jordan...

Bosworth didn't sink the movie, but Stone Cold really could have been something with someone like Stallone or Kurt Russell or Bruce Willis as the lead.

Maybe I'll check it out at some point out of curiosity if nothing else.

Speaking of movies with football players turned actors, do you remember this shit with Howie Long?

I do. When it comes to football players making movies, Carl Weathers rules and all others rest in peace.

i remember seeing this in the theaters with my buddy when it came out for his bday. i honestly dont remember anything from the movie other than the JLC strip scene. Other than that, i remember taking a leak in the big ass cup i finished drinking some soft drink out of since no one else was in the theater because i didn't want to potentially miss any more JLC strip scenes

Just looked up Firestorm and apparently it made all of $8 million at the box office. I'm vaguely surprised by that.

I remember thinking way back when it first came out that it looked like a cool movie with an interesting premise. (Then again, I was like 15 at the time.)

Shit, now I kind of want to watch it to see if it's completely terrible or not.

Sounds like you have the theme for your next watch-a-thon.

You probably already saw LT in In Hell.
