TRUE knockout power:

Interesting thread.

I have to agree with the 40 yard dash theory. Some people just apply more to certain sports/activities.

However, I do feel that punching power can be improved a great deal.

What do you guys think about heavier heavy bags. You could start off with whatever weight you use now (ex: 100 pounds). Then, as your power improves, get a heavier bag. I think Cus did this with Tyson.

What excersises (sorry for bad spelling) could improve power. I have been noting some of the ones listed. Does anybody have a routine they are using to improve their power?

Power has nothing to do with knock outs, you'd know about this if you learn preasure points from George Dillman. Check him out.

That not that guy that puts on those phoney demos with his students, is it?

Tyson is a bad example because he was gifted with natural power. He was knocking out grown men when he was in his teens. Cus taught him how to harness and accentuate what he had, Cus didn't give it to him.

Does the idea itself make sense though?

Sort of. I'm of the school of thought a person cannot be taught to hit "hard". I tried way earlier in this thread to distinguish between a stiff, clean, crisp punch, and a hard punch. Stiff is when it stings, even hurts. Hard is when it destroys a part of your soul or psyche to be hit by a fighter. Ricky Hatton's bodyshots are stiff. Floyd Mayweather's punches are stiff. Tommy Hearns's right hand was hard. Naseem Hamed's hands are hard. Hell even Kevin Kelly (who Hamed knocked out) was a very hard puncher.

Naseem is my favourite boxer of all time, i like this thread ;)
