anyone tried this?.... seems like a hassle because you would be sprinting for 30 seconds, then a little while to get the speed down to walk speed?

Ill try it anyway

Someone recommended sets of

30 seconds sprint, a minutes walk (ive just started cardio by the way)

How many sets should i do of this?

Also i see alot of programs usually have you running three times a week... i do my treadmill work (3 miles) everyday... is that fine?

dood i do a minute on the treadmill at a sprint , then a minute off . get it up 2 watever speed u want for the time u want , then jump off 4 ur rest , then jump back on 2 carry on. my anaerobic capacity is much better in like 2 -3 weeks.

Yeah, I do the same thing, but a little variation.

I put the incline up and jog for a few minutes at 5mph to get warmed up.

Then I sprint for 1 minute at 10mph, jump off, and slow it down to 8mph. That way, I don't fall off when I go to get back on. I bump it up to 10 as I am running.

You mentioned you just started cardio, what's your goal? What's the cardio for?

You also note that you run 3 miles a day, is this everyday or do you have rest days?

For me I run 2 days a week and if I had time would run 3. My goal is to run 3 miles as fast as possible.

On Monday I run for 20 mins at around 5.5 mph - nice easy run around 145 beats per minute.
On Thursday I just started a new run of 10 min warmup at 5.0-6.0 then with 30 sec sprints at 6.5 and incline at 7.5, 6.5 and 10.0 and 6.5 and 12.5. I end this with a 5 min run at 7.0 with 0 incline.

My goal is to bump up the Thursday by 0.2 mph each week.

See how slow you get when you're 35, married with two kids.

same

im 18, already reasonably fit from sports and stuff.... Kyokushin Karate.... so i usually do that 3 miles everday.... its a 23-24 minute run for me. Ive been doing cardio specific work for a month but i get alot of cardio out of karate.

The treadmills at my gym have a 'speed interval' option where you set your two speeds and start going... every time you hit the button it switches. The only thing that's tough is trying to hit the button when you're at a full sprint, completely winded at the end of the workout... hands can be a little shaky.

Since no one has asked the stupid question yet, I'll do it:

Why are you sprinting on a treadmil?

I'm not saying anything bad, I've toyed with the idea and done some fast incline sprints on it, but that was so that I could quantify the workload (ie I can increase the variable as and when I want by precise amounts)

Because it has been below freezing with strong winds here. Not fun to run outside anymore.

I don't sprint on treadmills for the simple fact that all the ones I have seen are limited to 16km/h which is way below a sprint. That's like a slow 800m pace, no where near a sprint.

Try increasing the incline to make up for that. You get better hamstring activation that way I think as well....

i do intervals, but not sprints. too much hassle to do true sprints on the treadmill.

intervals are good. try ditching the treadmill though, and hit the road.
